Nuvi 680 GPS

Our review of the Garmin Nuvi 680 finds it to be a highly capable, but quite costly, GPS device. Still, it's worth a look.

Boasts a bright screen, Streaming audio through a car stereo

Very hefty price, Spotty coverage

On several occasions the Nuvi 680 delivered directions too late for me to follow them, while the Mio was more timely. This disparity occurred on both surface streets and the highway, while I used both products simultaneously

Garmin nüvi 680

Garmin's super-capable GPS goes way beyond an ordinary navigation device.

Location-based services provide real-time information on traffic, weather, gas prices, and movies. Sensitive receiver. Great 4.3-inch screen.

Pricey. Optional packages such as Fodor's and language guides drive up the price. Not all theaters and gas stations report live data to MSN Direct.

Last year the Garmin nuvi 660 was my Editor's Choice for the well-heeled GPS shopper. Garmin announced the 660's successor, the nuvi 680, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on January 2007. The nuvi 680 is identical to the 660 in every way, except...

Our review of the Garmin Nuvi 680 finds it to be a highly capable, but quite costly, GPS device. Still, it's worth a look.

It's neither cheap now without flaws, but the Garmin Nuvi 680 is worth a look for those seeking a full-featured GPS satnav device and media player.
