Best GPS I've every had!

Love this thing. It does everything I want. I bought it because of the topo maps (that can be loaded into it). I have the entire state of Colorado on it in the highest detail. I have a 4 gb sd card in it and it only took up 2gd. It did take about 2...

Topo maps ; Tracking ; Start up

The menus are tough, you have to sit down and learn where everything is and how to use it ; You have to read how to turn the thing completely off instead of stand by. It took me about a year and a hole lot of batteries to learn that

OK deal if using with TOPO!

Very nice for finding your way around while bushwacking in the backcountry. I can put the whole state of Colorado TOPO! on one SD chip! Some difficulty starting up, but it all seems to be functioning OK now. A little hard to tool around but OK for $200...

Uses color TOPO! National Geographic maps. Good deal if you already have a state package or weekend explorer from NatGeoTopo! Pretty small and light. Lasts ten hours. Good Illumination

Somehwhat buggy to get up and rolling. Not totally intuitive. Still have not figured out how to get my trail back into my computer for archiving and sharing with friends and on the web

Don't waste your time or money on this one.

I purchased the Triton 500 prior to going on vacation in Kauai, HI. I wanted to go hiking on some of the many trails. After I purchased it, I found out that it had no topos pre-loaded. Why would one buy a handheld GPS without topos. I live in the...

It is compact and rugged. The color screen is clear

It is unreliable. Lost all of its maps after the first day ; Maps are "keyed" to the S/N of the unit. Can't be used on anything else ; Maps are very expensive and quality is not equal to the cost

Nice start but falls far short of the mark.

I have a magellan sport trak that is at least 5 years old. I was looking to upgrade and find a unit that has better maping than my old unit does. When I first turned on the triton 500 I was impressed. It started quickly and the color display produced a...

Compact design, seems to have a strong internal antenna, fast start up

used the unit for 30 minutes before deciding to return it. Buttons are tiny. I wore a hole in my thumb using the buttons and because of the shape and how hard u have to push the buttons i almost dropped it several times. text on screen is small

There are too many issues that make this diffucult to use.

Not bad out of the box - it worked and i was able to use it almost immediately. Noted that the back case plastic seems kind of cheap and brittle (One drop ?). The seals may be ok but the fit looks marginal and may not wear well. The USB cable is of...

You can can use it as a photo viewer - buts is a GPS

Connectivity (can't) and user interaction (clumsy menu+ buttons)

great - maybe someday

The specs look great, but the units are buggy in this first release. They hang, lose tracks, etc. The software they distribute (Mapsend lite) is serial port only, so won't work with the unit which is USB. The built in base maps are very poor, and...
