Magellan Maestro 3100

A couple of months ago, we reviewed the Magellan Maestro 4040 and liked it for its nice interface, performance, and value. Now, the company has added an even more affordable solution to the Maestro family. Aimed at the first-time buyer and...

The Magellan Maestro 3100 has a simple and compact design, and it offers the navigation basics at an affordable price.

This Magellan GPS system froze on a couple of occasions, and route recalculations can sometimes be slow. It's also difficult to remove the device from the vehicle mount.

The Magellan Maestro 3100 is an affordable, simple, and basic portable navigation system for first-time buyers, but you can get better performance from other similar systems.

Review of the Entry Level Magellan Maestro 3100 Portable GPS System

I have my hands on The Magellan Maestro 3100 and I'm going to tell you its features, why its a best seller, and who should spring for one.

Magellan Maestro 3100 review

I have not been very impressed with receivers with such a low number of POIs. Even units with 1.5 million POIs have frequently failed to turn up the store, restaurant, etc. that I was looking for, meaning that I would need to enter the address for...

Magellan Maestro 3100 Review

Last month Magellan released the highly anticipated Maestro 4040 to mixed reviews. This month, Magellan has released the smaller, less expensive Maestro 3100. This 3.5" display, no-frills unit is aimed squarely at the budget-conscious consumer, and is...

Cheap. Basic. Better than Nothing.

The Maestro 3100 is the cheapest standalone satnav here, and it is reasonably impressive for the price.

Magellan - Maestro 3100

Magellan has chosen a very cautious specification for its entry-level Maestro 3100. The 3.5-inch touch screen has a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, GPS lock is handled by the ubiquitous SiRF Star III chip and ...

It's a horrible expression but Magellan ticks all the boxes with its Maestro 3100 and at first glance it supplies every feature you could possible need at an incredibly low price. Take a second look and you'll see that you actually get a fairly basic...

"Mount is terrible and deceptive map description"

The description of the maps said "North America." When I went to school in the 1950s, Canada and Mexico were in North America. Evidently Magellan has redefined North America to mean "Lower 48." Since I travel to Canada frequently I expected Canada...

The only thing i like about this unit is choice of shortest time; shortest distance; least use of freeways or most use of freeways. I don't care for anything else.

Biggest turn-offs are mount is terrible and map description is wrong.. I bought a refurb (thankfully so I don't have much money in this) to use as a back-up GPS. This unit came mounted to the mount and I have not been able to remove it!

"Used different GPS over the years & 3100 is good."

Very good, very simple, very much like it's big brother the 4040 I have in my other car.

It's simple easy to direct & re-direct. If you leave the path it will give you a few chances to return to the original course then plot a new one. More complex units tend to default out after the second or third; if you live in Atlanta that won't do.

Slow start up, old software, and way to expensive to update. And if you live in Atlanta you definitely need to get the new streets and street changes.
