handy and portable navigator

a good device suitable for all type of terrain and conditions

gives a good battery standby time and is also accurate

hangs quite sometimes, also is a tad slow quite a problem in times of emergency

Consumer review by:

Good value for the cost.

Since I work in aviation I was more interested in its air navigation capabilities, which were proved quite reliable when aircraft was navigating GPS approach procedures. I used it for road navigation and found it not quite as accurate as a GPS...

Been using one since 2002. Has proven itself, even under aircraft flight navigation. Low usage of battery power supply

Screen too small for zoom function. Restriction of 64MB uploads

Useless for lakes or shorelines, totally useless.

A waste of your money if you want a GPS that knows anything about lakes or rivers, it doesn't show an streams or rivers feeding our lake, it has over 1200 miles of shoreline and it does not know a bit of it. No good for anything other than ... Expand...

Cheap to buy, but does not do what it is supposed to, it is stated to be a MARINE unit, yet my old Garmin emap, a road GPS, shows much more accurate shorelines. Does not show county roads either, what a waste of money

I don't like paying for something that does not do what it is supposed to. Meridian Marine, what a joke. Marine my butt, it doesn't even have the name of our lake, the largest manmade lake in the eastern US right, says it is another lake upstream

Horrible product -- do not buy it!!!

Please do not waste your money on this product: * The GPS signal oftentimes takes over 2~5 minutes to acquire * The system only has a serial interface, (no USB support). * That in itself would not be an issue, but the software requires that it...

Color screen

Slow GPS signal acquisition, copy protected software, HDW only supports serial ports, (aka no USBs), SW doesn't work with WinXP SR2 nor with Vista

Good navigation, but cuts some corners

Great GPS and mapping, directions right on. Alerts well before each turn. Uses standard SD cards for data storage

Data transfer is using a serial cable. This is S..L...O..W. It's 2004. They could at least give you USB speed. Downloading a 20Mb map of the Bay area took about 1 hour. And lots of newer computers don't even have a serial port. And if you have a Mac, you

Built like a disposable unit.

This did a good job of making tracks, marking way-points, and other basic GPS functions. Measures distace and speed well also. Used for Off-Road motorcycling, and it would get me back to the truck, but not much more help than that

Backlit display stopped lighting as soon as the warrenty expired. Even though it is said to be waterproof, condensation inside screen, then it works no more! Also, would not download track maps to a PC. It looked great in the box
