Magellan RoadMate 1200

The inexpensive Magellan RoadMate 1200 shares features with more-expensive GPS models, yet costs less than $150.

Good value. Shares many of the features and user interface of more-expensive units. Multisegment routing.

Small, 1.3 million-POI database. No text-to-speech

Magellan RoadMate 1200 review

Magellan RoadMate 1200

The Magellan RoadMate 1200 offers a simple design and basic navigation features at an affordable price.

The RoadMate 1200 doesn't have text-to-speech functionality, and the system is sluggish with route calculations and recalculations. There are no pedestrian and bicycle routing modes.

Despite ease of use and an affordable price tag, the entry-level Magellan RoadMate 1200 portable navigation system suffers from various performance issues.

Magellan RoadMate 1200

An intuitive, low-priced navigator that's a bit sluggish.

Simple, easy-to-use interface ; Trip planning with multiple waypoints ; Well-designed maps

Slow rerouting ; Small POI database ; Doesn't pronounce street names

Because of its weak POI database and sluggish rerouting, we wouldn’t recommend the RoadMate 1200 for those who need to depend on a GPS device every day. But if you need directions for the occasional longer trip, then the RoadMate is a good choice: It...

Magellan RoadMate 1200 review
