Magellan Triton 1500 review

The Magellan Triton 1500 is one of a new series of handheld GPS receivers from Magellan that can display USGS topo maps (raster imagery) from National Geographic. I've had the unit for over six weeks now and have put it through its paces.

Good all-round, but not as rugged as they claim

I liked this unit with the touchscreen functioning. Screen broke fairly easily though-had it my front pocket-no idea how it broke-not like i sat on it or anything. (Not that rugged after all) Can still read my position through the shattered touch...

Easy to Read Screen, Fairly Accurate, Good acquisition time, touch screen

Touch Screen is easy to break. Software is somewhat confusing to use and doesn't always interface properly with Vantage Point. Long download update times. batteries don't last longer than 6-8hours tops

Not compatible with many other GPS software

Nice color screen

I was really disappointed to find out the Magellan Triton is not compatible with my Terrain Navigator software. Apparently it is compatible with only a limited number of software programs

Magellan Triton 1500

I'm an infantry officer in the Army. We train out in the field a lot. That is one of the reasons I bought this unit. I have had so much trouble getting simple maps, which I had to purchase, loaded on this thing. I still have had no success. I don't...

Unit has a solid, well made case. Easy to move from screen to screen. Speedometer works well. Easy to plug in way points and follow your location on cartoon-like base maps

Borterline impossible to load maps on this unit. Intructions, both written and online, take you in circles and are very confusing. Customer service is in India and they just refer you back to internet. Don't understand slow, well-spoken english

Works great

I bought the unit in Vancouver at Canadian Tire for $400, used it at the airport for a while before a fishing trip, was very user friendly and worked well even without any extra software. I got to the Lodge and brought the unit out for the first day of...

solid, touch screen, easy to use display, intuitive

buttons don't always work, sometimes it seems like the unit locks up...or is it the keys

First one failed, not repaired properly, refurb sent.

Great if you want to invest in Magellan's map products or want to view cartoonish base maps.

It knows where it is

Will not connect to anything but Magellan software. (no Google Earth, or other pc gps programs).. Base map has little detail. Some functions are nonfunctional e.g.nema usb "reserved for future use
