Navigon 5100 review

Navigon 5100

The sleek Navigon 5100 has an integrated traffic receiver with subscription-free traffic service. There's also a lane assistant function for optimal routing and text-to-speech functionality.

The 5100's screen is on the smaller side, and it's slow to get a satellite fix. The design of the vehicle mount may not fit everyone's personal taste.

The Navigon 5100 offers drivers a number of useful navigation tools beyond basic driving directions; we just wish it had a larger screen and a slightly lower price tag.

Navigon 5100 review

The Navigon 5100 is Navigon's first generation mid-range GPS device. It features lifetime traffic, Zagat ratings and the reality view / lane assist feature for major highway interchanges, as shown above. It also has a 3.5" touch screen, maps of the...

Navigon 5100 Sat-Nav

With so many devices now offering GPS navigation, can Navigon's 5100 system find its way through the competition and into your car?

But the 5100 doesn't stop there. Another advantage it offers over PDA or phone navigation is an integrated TMC receiver. This receives traffic incident information over FM and it does so pretty successfully too, without the need for extra messy wires...

Great Product

Excellent product for the money and I will recommend it to all my friends.

Ready and easy to use right out of the box. All needed accessories are enclosed and it has great features. When the basic settings are done properly, this product is very easy to use. Live traffic updates helps in route mapping, have avoided go slows...

Nothing serious, volume is a bit low sometimes

Navigon 5100

Overall I am quite pleased with this unit. I was most interested in the no-added cost traffic display and subsequent reroute funtion tied too it. Works well even without antenna here in Seattle. Unit routed us around stopped traffic on two occasions...

Crisp, clear display ; Good voice quality with most prompts coming well ahead of time ; Traffic alerts and rerouting can save time and money ; Design ; Quick rerouting when you get off intial course

3.5" Display can get crowded if all screen options are selected. Text can be small from a distance ; Menus take some getting used to in order to find all options and features ; Night/Day back lighting could be automatic ; No direct input of stores,...

Don't do it

Please, please, don't do this to yourself! It's the worst one I've ever seen or used.

The mounting system - it's nice, you can put this terrible unit just about anywhere you please. The reality view is neat. Traffic is a feature it has.

Where to begin... First it's slow, slow, slow. It takes forever to enter an address, and not very intuitive. Entering data is difficult, the keyboard layout is small, as are with all the buttons. The reality view is neet, but really it's worthless, it...

One big disapointment

The GPS almost never recalculates the route around traffic problems. When it did it told me to take an off ramp then get back on the same onramp... WASTED MORE TIME. The traffic service is only useful when you are stuck in traffic and want to see when...

This is my first GPS but have tried out everyone currently on the marker (I work at a GPS retailer.) This device has only proven good for 2 things, it will EVENTUALLY get you to your destination also the Aprox. time of arrival works pretty good. This...

All the features it offers... SUCK. I drive 45 miles to school 3 times a week and there are two highways to take. One is shorter but has more traffic problems while the other is a little longer but less traffic problems. I thought the traffic feature...

One more thing

Same

This unit is hard to clip on the mount - you have to twist it on (tried 30 times and took me 2-3 times each time I tried) whicn means it has to be mounted higher than your dash

Consumer review (newegg.com)

Sort of impressed . . . . .

Paid $249.99 after rebate for this unit, but having a hard time deciding to keep this over the Pharos Drive 150 for $99.99 Will have to give the traffic service a real test before deciding to return this. If a Music player, Photo Viewer and Bluetooth...

Great screen quality, POI labels and logo's are a nice feature. Traffic receiver worked great in car and indoors without attaching the included antenna (Los Angeles area). Lifetime Traffic service . Build quality appears excellent

Media player should be included in this price range. What, no AC Adapter/Charger included
