The AVIC-S2 is well equipped and despite a somewhat confusing map experience, it remains a recommended, if not outstanding purchase.

Bluetooth, good maps, excellent volume scroll wheel, music player, safety camera warnings

Chunky and heavy, confusing map display at times, battery life

Pioneer AVIC-S2

The AVIC-S2 is competent but, aside from Bluetooth, there are similarly specified GPSes for less.

Neat looks ; Bluetooth for hands-free mobile usage

Map button doesn't go back to the map ; Pricey

So, the experience is little different to the Mio DigiWalker C220. For AU$200 extra, the only upgrades are the headphone jack, microphone, Bluetooth and a more expensive-looking design. Oh, and the Pioneer brand. We're not sure they justify the price...

Review: Pioneer AVIC-S2

With Pioneer's experience in car entertainment gear, hopes were high it could bring something innovative to the crowded portable GPS table.

Pioneer AVIC-S2

Just when you think you've seen everything that is possible a company like Pioneer comes along and jams even more functionality into an already packed device.

Technology is a scary thing. Well the speed at which technology improves and develops is what’s scary. Back when I first started out in audio, mobile phones were house-brick sized boxes that only the military had, blue-tooth was something you got after...

Give it a Chance

Very good GPS system for the tech forward crowd. Keeps it simple with some unexpected features. All said very good gift GPS but this is not the newest kid on the block.

Gives clear detailed directions and will even let you avoid roads if that's not the route you want to take. Small and pocket friendly. Many languages to chose from if that's what you need. Very accurate in placement on the map

Map is on an SD card, if you want to use the music feature you need to close the navigation program. Battery life is short no more than 2 hours. Navigating the menu may be challenging to some who don't learn very fast

Good Portable GPS

This is my second portable GPS Unit.. My previous GPS unit, the Navman iCN510 worked well, but lost signal frequently and required map downloads. Many state maps were missing from the software. The AVIC S2 suffers from none of those issues. The...

Excellent Signal Acquisition, Nice packaging

Clunky Software, Poor Online/Phone Support

Better than the AVIC S1, but still needs improvement

I owned an AVIC-S1 for almost a year (thank goodness it was still in warranty) when the speaker went out. I had other problems before this occurred, which I overlooked, such as 1) frequent freezing causing me to have to reboot the device, 2)frequent...

Easily readable screen w/ multiple viewing options, quick route recalculation, and bluetooth phone connectivity

Software issues can be frustrating, also takes quite awhile sometimes to get an initial signal
