Best handheld GPS

Reviewers point to Garmin's Oregon 550t as the top choice for serious enthusiasts. Its impressive lineup of features includes an easy-to-use touch-screen display with an interface that resembles that of the Apple iPhone. You'll also find a...

Garmin Oregon 550T Review

Physically, the Oregon 550Tt appears virtually identical to previous Oregon models, sharing the same screen size, resolution, and overall dimensions as the Oregon 400 and 300 series.

Garmin Oregon 550t review

Garmin Oregon 550t GPS system review

Looking at the Garmin 550t (t standing for topographical maps), you would be forgiven for thinking someone had handed you the previous version. It's so alike, that at first we thought that Garmin had just sent us the wrong unit. Why? Well it comes in...

Easy to use, built-in camera, improved screen, more waypoints, more routes

Expensive, screen not totally visible in bright sun

In our 400t review we whinged that the screen was too dull. Garmin have addressed this, so it only seems fair for us to up the score from an 8 to a 9 for this model

Garmin Oregon 550t Handheld GPS Navigator

This rugged GPS navigator isn't cheap but it is full of features for the serious hiker.

Although the list price for the Garmin Oregon 550t is close to £500, we’ve already seen it available for nearer to £300 on a number of retail websites. This still doesn’t exactly make it a bargain, and it’s even more of a serious hiker’s GPS than the...

great for geocaching

I would like this more if it had a delete on the cache site once it was found, otherwise, am very happy with it Unless you are half knowledgeable on how to find your way around your GPS while on the internet, I do NOT recommend this one.

like that it is paperless

sometimes hard to read the monitor, and must be on the computer to delete a cache once it is found

Garmin can do better with this

The custom map feature. Generally speaking, the accuracy ; The repair/replacement coverage. I ran over it with a Quadrunner, and the repair/replacement was much cheaper than the purchase price

Can only load one custom map at a time. Annoying. I can understand Garmin wanting to sell their maps, but if you buy everything they have covering the western U.S., they should let the user take advantage of an 8GB compact SD. Also, the Garmin topos...

Garmin Oregon 550 Portable Navigator

Garmin makes a quality product and really stands behind their Units. Their Customer Service is great and issues are usually resolved quickly. KUDO's to Garmin for keeping their Customer Service local where you can actually speak to a human that...

Right out of the box the operation was intuitive to former Colorado users. The device is very lightweight and I like the rechargeable battery feature. Access to the batteries has improved - I love the way the case opens

Garmin still has not improved their instructions for Geocaching use to new users. I would still be struggling if I had not used a similar device previously
