Review: Next Generation Security - Sonic Wall's NSA 2400

SonicWall claims their NSA2400 UTM is "next generation security." The Test Center tests the claim.

Consumer review by:

Works great!

Deployed 18 in medium office. They are dual band and we have both secured and open guest access. Being able to create zones and filter traffic as well as scan traffic with UTM device is great. Created policy and deployed in less than an hour.

Easy to deploy and manage through SonicWall. Feature rich and good monitoring and reporting

Would be nice to be able to use without Sonicwall

Quick and easy

Standard power cord, easy installation and plenty of power for the Axis P3346-VE camera hanging off it

Guess the jack markings could have been inked in to increase visibility, but a very minor quibble

Bought this because EnGenius' POE adapter was not avaliable and this was the one one that met the current draw for the AP. This POE adapter puts out 500mA, I only needed 375mA peak so needless to say I'll be using this POE injector for a while as it...

Meets or accedes power requirements

None so far

Does not include POE Injector

New system runs fast! Windows 7 64bit home premium Intel Core i7-875K (cpu) ASUS P7P55D-E Pro (motherboard) ZOTAC ZT-40202-10P GTX 470 (video) Patriot G series 'Sector 5' 2x4GB CORSAIR XMS DDR3 1600 2x4GB OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2-2VTXE120G (primary drive)...

Can set single Blue LED so no annoying flashing lights

Does not include POE Injector ; You can't have simultaneous dual-band. You have to pick one frequency and that's all you get

SonicWALL NSA 2400 Multi-Core Unified Threat Management Appliance

I've never managed a firewall before and walked into a job that has a 2400. Overall it seems like a powerful solution and has lots of bells and whistles. As a Sonicwall newbie, I find it endlessly frustrating. There are SO many settings and screens...

SonicWALL NSA 2400 Multi-Core Unified Threat Management Appliance

We upgraded our datacenter sonic wall from a TZ190 to a NSA240 after experiencing issues with connectivity with our clients. Everything has been been running smooth since then. Also the support with Sonicwall staff is top notch.

SonicWALL NSA 2400 TotalSecure - security appliance

Just upgraded from a Pro 330 and, as usual, it went without a hitch. SonicWall makes a quality product that's easy to configure and maintain. This is a recommended appliance for anyone needing a mid-sized firewall.

Product Specifications

SonicWALL NSA Series appliances provide enterprise networks with continuous real-time threat protection, ensuring the strongest defense posture with minimal IT intervention. SonicWALL's dynamic security services continuously communicate with worldwide network of back-end centers, immediately updating signatures to protect against malicious code, vulnerabilities, and unproductive Web sites. NSA appliances integrate market-leading customizable Application Firewall for regulating application access, data leakage prevention, and user access control, giving enterprise administrators complete control over every communication to every destination across the network. Every day, malware, spyware and real-time applications become more sophisticated, and now have the ability to circle the entire globe in a matter of minutes. Many threats are blended, originating from multiple sources over many different protocols, operating at multiple layers, over multiple protocols, delivered via IM, P2P, file sharing, games or harmless-looking utility programs and bypassing traditional client-based solutions. Today's complex threats require a solution beyond standard anti-virus technology. SonicWALL Gateway Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware features a deep packet inspection (DPI) engine that inspects all e-mail, Web, file transfer, and other stream-based protocols, as well as real-time applications such as IM and P2P for total application and threat control. Unlike other solutions, SonicWALL DPI analyzes all files in real time - regardless of file size or compression - and generates proactive alerts that notify administrators whenever a threat is detected. SonicWALL prevents day-zero attacks with dynamically-updated databases and an extensive list of virus and malware signatures. SonicWALL blocks spyware at the gateway with anti-spyware technology that prevents users from downloading spyware in the first place. In addition, it prevents auto-installation of ActiveX components (one of the most common sources of spyware) and stops any existing spyware programs from communicating with their hosts. Many of the most dangerous threats function at the application layer, exploiting vulnerabilities in common network applications to drain productivity and steal data. Application layer threats defy old guard technology - but SonicWALL goes a step beyond by scanning for worms, Trojans, software vulnerabilities, backdoor exploits, and other types of malicious attacks. Working in conjunction with SonicWALL anti-virus and anti-spyware technology, the SonicWALL Intrusion Prevention Service (IPS) engine protects against an array of network-based application vulnerabilities and exploits. Deployed to protect against both internal and external threats, SonicWALL IPS monitors the network for malicious or anomalous traffic, then blocks or logs traffic based on predefined and automatically updated conditions. By focusing on known malicious traffic, SonicWALL IPS decreases false positives while increasing network reliability and performance. SonicWALL Application Firewall is a set of granular, application specific policies that allow custom access controls based upon user, application, schedule or IP subnet level. Its comprehensive policy capabilities include restricting transfer of specific files and documents, blocking e-mail attachments using a user-configurable criteria, customized application control, bandwidth limiting for matched policies, and denying internal and external Web access based on various user-configurable options. Using Application Firewall, SonicWALL NSA solutions provide application level access control, data leakage control functionality, and the ability to create pure custom signatures - adding up to a future-proofed solution for enterprise network administrators.
