TomTom Go 500 review

With a totally new user interface and a re-thinking of exactly how it delivers connected services, the latest TomTom personal navigation devices feel like something of a rebirth.

Simplified interface, sleek design, great navigation, Traffic is available to all

It feels a little pricey, glossy display could be a problem

Overall we're impressed with the refreshes that TomTom has brought with the Go 500. The size might be a little larger than you actually need, in which case opt for the smaller TomTom Go 400 with it's 4.3-inch display and £40 cheaper asking price.

The TomTom GO 500 has a new user interface that strips away the traditional address entry search process, and its capacitive touch screen is responsive. Safety camera alerts are an optional extra and you'll need to tether your smartphone to get live...

TomTom GO 500

TomTom's radical redesign is a huge success

Lifetime TomTom traffic ; Lifetime European map updates ; Redesigned menu interface

Traffic updates require smartphone tethering ; LIVE services only include traffic and speed camera updates

However, it's worth noting that although TomTom claims the data consumption is minimal – just 7MB per month for an hour's usage a day during peak traffic times – you will need to ensure your smartphone has enough power to maintain the connection for...

Nice Product

This was a replacement for a very old and well used TomTom GO 1000, great step forward in terms of technology and extremely easy to use. Well made product and 3D screens are brilliant. Definitely worth going for.

TomTom go 500

Good sat nav, but let down by the software for updating it. Bought two of them at same time expecting cashbaxk for both buy was only allowed for one TomTom as in terms and conditions. Apart from that it does the job that I would expect.

Simply the best

Easily the best sat nav on the market at this price. I have an older version and things have certainly improved over the last few years. It picks up signals much faster and adjusts routes on the go quicker. Have had a little difficulty linking for blue...
