TomTom Go 600

With a 6-inch screen and generous features, the TomTom Go 600 goes above and beyond the average standalone GPS device, but it may be overkill for some.

Large touch screen. Voice control. Free traffic alerts

Traffic alerts require linking to smartphone. Confusing voice prompts

With mapping apps becoming more and more popular, standalone GPS devices have to set themselves apart. The TomTom Go 600 ($279.99) has a nice 6-inch screen, optional voice control, and free traffic alerts via a mobile app. It's on the pricey side...

TomTom GO 600

An outstanding sat-nav with a six-inch screen and lifetime traffic

Speed warnings as you approach jams ; Lifetime European map updates and Traffic service ; Redesigned menu interface with unified search

Speed camera updates still require subscription ; Weather and local search not part of online services ; Premium over smaller-screened GO models

You also get lifetime updates to the maps that came with the device - either UK or EU, depending on model. There are some downsides, however, particularly with the European mapping version of the GO 600 we tested. If you want to use the GO 600's Live...

TomTom GO 600

TomTom's premium GPS has an all-new and very clear interface that makes searching for locations a charm.

Simple searchable interface ; Good spoken street names ; Excellent rerouting

6 inches is almost too large for a GPS ; Power button is hard to press

The GO 600 is a great GPS that works simply. TomTom's improvements to its UI at first appear to be mere window dressing, but with extended use, it quickly becomes apparent how clever they are. They're good for quick searching and choosing locations...
