TomTom Navigator 5 review

TomTom continues its tradition of quality GPS devices with its TomTom Navigator 5. Excellent maps and strong performance make this Bluetooth GPS receiver for PDAs one of the best we've seen to date. See if it's right for you.

Gorgeous maps, especially on high-res PDAs; free TomTom Plus service fetches traffic and map updates; many on-device tips and tutorials; plans routes for walkers and cyclists.

Limited smart-phone compatibility; some Bluetooth-related wrinkles; no AC adapter for charging GPS receiver; TomTom Plus requires smart phone; manual covers software only.

With great mapping features and advanced services, TomTom's latest navigation kit for PDAs and smart phones approaches GPS greatness.

TomTom 5 Navigator

TomTom have finally updated their PDA version with the new "Core" software and like a certain Dutch beer it's just taken a little bit longer.

Good Software, No updates

This software would be a 4 or 5, but without any map updates of any kind, this software is very limited. In fact, if you had One Million Dollars in your pocket, you still couldn't buy updates because they do not exist. BUY NAVIGATOR 6 INSTEAD

Software is fast and easy to use. If you the the Bluetooth GPS unit, its very compact

TomTom...better than SueSue

My wife picked me up this unit, thinking I had a bluetooth PDA...not the case. I had to get in touch with the support group right after christmas, slight delay. They stepped up and overnighted a wired unit that is no longer made. It has been working...

Some maps imperfections....and it gets darn hot where it is mounted in the car. I am looking to upgrade soon and have another customer support e-mail in....waiting, waiting.....but still use it everday

Inexpensive GPS solution, but not without limitations

I purchased the TomTom 5 Navigator as an add-on accessory to the Palm TX that I already had. The cost of this package was much less than buying a dedicated automobile GPS solution and seemed to have all of the same features. While the software seems to...

Inexpensive, can fit entire country on one card, 3-D display very easy to read

Outdated maps, maps switched manually, bugs cetain features, long acquisition time

Nice GUI, but BAD support

I have been using Navigator 5 for the past year on an HP IPAQ 6515 w/built-in GPS, and a Palm with bluetooth GPS. The interface is clean and fairly easy to navigate. Basic functions (select destination and get directions there) work well. None of the...

Nice GUI, simple basic operations

Awful support, uninstallable updates, lack of advanced features, poor traffic service

Great, if it has the correct address for your destination

I recently went on a little vacation to Lake Geneva, WI. Several restaurants in the area were programmed in, yet when I attempted to navigate to them it brought me to the opposite side of town. Also, in Glenwood, IL It brought me to the middle of a...

Gets you where you need to go, if it has the correct address

Frequently has incorrect address and takes you away from your destination

Solid performer with a few glitches

This review is for the software only. I am using the software with a generic Bluetooth GPS reciever I purchased from Computer Geeks.

Always have maps and directions in your PDA, and new voices keep it interesting

Maps not always up to date, but still halpful
