I'd buy almost ANY other brand, hoping TomTom feels the pinch for their predatory marketing ploys. When a map update costs more than the original unit did, what gives? AND, why wouldn't the newly-purchased unit have the latest map guaranteed?

Customer service does NOT exist at TomTom. The map updates are extremely expensive, and in order to get into their subscription-based update service you have to buy the latest map, which is $79! Then you can pay the $50/year for the quarterly updates. Cla...
