TomTom Rider

Portable navigation systems aren't just for cars. Motorcyclists need help getting around, too, and the TomTom Rider aims to do just that. Designed for those who ride on two wheels, the Rider provides you with a simple plug-and-go solution with all the...

The TomTom Rider provides text- and voice-guided directions to motorcyclists and comes with an easy-to-install mounting kit. All maps are preloaded on an included SD card, and the unit has integrated Bluetooth for hands-free calling

The TomTom Rider's POI database is outdated and occasionally gave us wrong street names or no street at all for some side streets. Also, the included Bluetooth headset has poor sound quality and we wish the screen were slightly bigger

Despite some performance glitches, the TomTom Rider is a solid navigation system for motorcyclists, with good Bluetooth integration, but we recommend swapping out the included Bluetooth headset for a higher-quality one.

My Tom Tom Rider #1 now lives in the trash

I tried loving and living with my Tom Tom Rider, especially since I paid tons for it. I couldn't make it work no matter how hard I bashed my head against the wall. It's dead now. I have an iphone and found the miracle apps from Motion X called GPS...

Cute name ; Works on a motorcycle ; Great paper weight

1) no customer support ; 2) the Mac OS software never worked correctly - the sim mode never was operable ; the PC version was only slightly better ; 3) I bought an upgraded map membership - supposed lower price on upgrades. I was able ; to get one upgrade

The dock is the problem

The dock for the bike is apparently not engineered for close tolerances. The output of the dock is approximately 5 volts. After years of thinking the an electrical component failed, I realized not so, just the spring loaded contacts of the dock do not...

Unit itself is great

Faulty engineering of the dock

More of a hassle than helpful

It has a lot of options and they seem to work ok

Terrible customer support, the SD card will not read sometimes, the unit shuts off while driving, headset is not so good on a bike

The information I receive will traveling at any speed is always usually correct.

I have used several GPS units, for a non-miltary device - it has served me well. The support system for it is good as well. The web site is easy to use, and newsletters keep me up on any new changes of the software.

I have rode on some rough hwy's, and it has held on plus keep track of my bike

I wish it had a little large screen, and duel head sets

DO NOT BUY Version 1 Tom Tom Rider

I purchased a Tom Tom rider version 1 mainly to use on my bike. As far as the bike is concerned, the unit installs easily and performs as advertised. However, if you want to use your Rider Version 1 in the car that is where the adventure starts. First...

Maps work well and directions are door to door

No car mounts chargers or external speakers available

Fine road navigator w/ bluetooth for MC

Set up was very quick and after a little time getting familiar with the interface it has been quite easy to use. Route planning is easy and the maps seem up to date. I managed with some looking on a 5K trip to fined a couple of minor location errors...

Easy set up, touch screen control, weather proof, pre-loaded maps, included variety of mounting options, works w/ Mac OSX, pocketable for walk-around use

Did not include car adapter in the box (optional extra)

Product Specifications

It's a lovely sunny day and you feel like taking the bike out for a spin. Will you go on one of your usual circuits or take a different route for a change? Pick a new route, run through it before you leave, build in a few stops and don't worry about getting home. Or just pick a destination and ride. All you need to do is put your gear on, turn the ignition and you're off, without a care in the world. With TomTom RIDER you can ride wherever you want and you'll always find your way the easy way. TomTom RIDER is the first portable navigation system designed specially for bikers, and it's built with enjoyment and safety in mind. You get clear spoken directions door-to-door via a Bluetooth headset in your helmet. RIDER has unique glove-friendly touch-screen operation, and automatically goes into safe mode when you start the bike. There is an anti-glare screen with an integrated visor on its tough weatherproof case so you can see the colorful 3D graphics of the road ahead while you ride. And if you speed up, the volume of the spoken instructions goes up too, so that you can hear clearly at higher speeds. TomTom RIDER also handles phone calls using a wireless Bluetooth headset in your helmet. If you choose to accept them, calls are automatically routed to your helmet, overriding the spoken instructions during the call, while the 3D graphics continue to guide you on-screen. Just keep your Bluetooth-enabled phone in your bag or pocket and both hands firmly on the handlebar. Take any route you want; quickest, shortest, avoiding motorways or even a biker-friendly scenic route. TomTom RIDER transfers easily form bike to bike, and from bike to scooter. And, if you feel like taking the car instead, it works in the car too!
