TomTom Start 60 review

With mobile phone navigation apps slowly gobbling the traditional satnav market, GPS makers like TomTom have to continue to develop new ways of making their devices still relevant in a world where many of the competing products are free.

Big screen, easy to use

No Bluetooth, no Live Services, battery is poor

If you need to get from A to B and don't like the idea of using your tiddly mobile phone's screen then this is probably going to be the answer

TomTom Start 60

TomTom's Start 60 goes one inch better than the 5in displays available elsewhere.

Clear 6in screen with good viewing angles ; Speed camera locations ; European maps

No live services ; Not quite budget pricing

TomTom Start 60 Europe review

The TomTom Start 60 Europe's large screen is a boon. It makes navigating easy and greatly aids the process of working through the menus. The magnified junctions are a big help when approaching complex layouts and the maps are properly comprehensive....

Large screen ; Spoken road names ; Large points of interest database

Some camera warnings out of date on this test device

The TomTom Start 60 is a far better option than a smart phone for car-based navigation and it brings the large-screen convenience of a new car's built-in sat-nav device to older models.

Do you really need a satnav with a 6in screen? We find out if TomTom's huge Start 60 is worth the extra cash

Outstanding navigation and a lovely screen, but a little on the expensive side

TomTom Start 60

The TomTom Start 60 is a 6-inch satellite navigation device and an array of road mapping features including fuel-efficient routes, speed camera warnings, spoken street names, alternative routes and more. It has a battery life of 2 hours when not...

One of the first things you’ll about the TomTom Start 60 is its generous display. Measuring 6-inches diagonally, it’s large enough so that you won’t have to squint to make out any of the routes, or gaze in for a closer look. Everything is just right...

We don’t have too many gripes but if there are some to be had, it’s that battery life could be a lot longer. The TomTom Start 60 will struggle to overcome journeys lasting a few hours without being plugged in for the whole journey

The TomTom Start 60, despite battery concerns when not plugged in is still one of the better direction-giving devices around. The screen, menu, and ease of use are all top-notch, make for an excellent sat-nav.

Good for A to B but..... A retrograde step!

Hi, I bought a Tom Tom Start 60 Europe on the basis of my previous experience of earlier models and the attraction of a large screen display. Although the unit works well as a start alone device for navigating from A to B, I am extremely disappointed...

not good

I think this item has been rushed onto the market without actually being ready. I say that because when registering the unit online, there was a GPS signal enhancing update available, that (in hindsight) suggests there is something about it's...

TomTom Start 60 does not support favourites properly

This is a great looking device - Love it! And except for a few things it works well too. But the "few things" are a killer. It will not store any Favourites, nor will it store any user Points of Interest. (I can enter them, it says they are saved, but...

Big and clear

Excellent 6 inch screen size. Plenty of room for a good clear map display and extra information as well. Great product.
