TomTom Start 60 review

With mobile phone navigation apps slowly gobbling the traditional satnav market, GPS makers like TomTom have to continue to develop new ways of making their devices still relevant in a world where many of the competing products are free.

Big screen, easy to use

No Bluetooth, no Live Services, battery is poor

If you need to get from A to B and don't like the idea of using your tiddly mobile phone's screen then this is probably going to be the answer

TomTom Start 60

TomTom's Start 60 is your entry level satnav, but at a penny off £140 it's still a fairly beefy investment, and just a tenner more than an iPod Nano, for instance.

Simple ; no frills UI ; Does its one job well ; Search intuitive and logical

No traffic alerts ; No Bluetooth/app integration ; Poor touchscreen

This widescreen unit does navigation very well, with information organised succinctly, and just the right number of notifications to help you navigate. But that’s all it does. The maps are clear, the voice directions are so perfect they become...

The Start 60 is a colourful and helpful satnav system, but it has a slow, jerky interface

TomTom Start 60

TomTom's Start 60 goes one inch better than the 5in displays available elsewhere.

Clear 6in screen with good viewing angles, Speed camera locations, European maps

No live services, Not quite budget pricing

Do you really need a satnav with a 6in screen? We find out if TomTom's huge Start 60 is worth the extra cash

Outstanding navigation and a lovely screen, but a little on the expensive side

The TomTom Start 60, despite battery concerns when not plugged in is still one of the better direction-giving devices around. The screen, menu, and ease of use are all top-notch, make for an excellent sat-nav. TomTom Start 60 is tagged with TomTom,...

Very disappointing (due to hardware ussie known to TomTom but not repaired gratis when out of warranty)

Have had this for some time.1) Slight lag after pressing buttons2) suction mount dire - very unreliable3) failed shortly after a year: while routing, map jumps between menu pages of itself - a widespread problem with a number of TomToms - and while you...

Had enough.

Large screen - check. Not much else though. This has been my third TomTom and probably my last. They are getting progressively worse at finding postcode destinations and the mapping is OK at best. The audio directions are not excellent - they are...

TomTom Start 60

I have owned several portable Sat Navs both Garmin and TomTom. I bought the Start 60 because of the screen size, at 6 inches it is one of the largest portables and the benefit of this is obviously that the map image is larger, however a second...
