TomTom's impressive LIVE Services get squeezed into a less impressive form factor

God-like HD Traffic ; Hands-free phone calls ; Map corrections and updates

Ongoing subscription required ; Ageing, low-res display

The TomTom Via LIVE 120 slots into the TomTom sat nav range below the top-end Go LIVE 1000 devices and consequently it doesn't have as many fancy features. The screen isn't as roomy; there's no pinch-to-zoom and it lacks the neat magnetic window bracket.

TomTom Via Live 120 review

Despite a couple of minor flaws, the Via Live 120 is a great satnav. We just hope MyTomTom is fully working soon.

If you already own a TomTom satnav with live services, there's little incentive to upgrade. If not, the Via 120 isn't bad value at £175. This includes full coverage of Europe, and Google Local Search works in other countries too, not just in the UK....

The first time I used the Tom Tom was in a town in the South of France, we wanted to get to Montpellier airport (the only address details we had). Though the Tom Tom had European maps installed I had to end up buying a map to find out where the airport...

Good size display, lane guidance and Bluetooth phone connection are great features. Good choice of voices.

Touchscreen is really hard to use and you have to press hard to get it to register. Information display on bottom of the screen is very messy and bunched up.
