Magellan Maestro 4700 GPS Review

Magellan One Touch interface is handy ; Excellent POI handling with built-in AAA tour book ; Big, 4.7-inch screen

Voice-recognition feature is poorly implemented

This premium GPS device packs plenty of features, but you can find many of them on lower-cost products, too.

Magellan Maestro 4700

Responsive touch screen. Detailed voice prompts. Fast route recalculations. Handy "Find Your Car" feature helps you locate your vehicle in a crowded parking lot

Inconsistent voice recognition. Takes a long time to lock location. A little buggy

A slim and flexible navigation device, the Magellan Maestro 4700 features a big 4.7-inch screen and serves up clear and accurate turn-by-turn directions; forget about talking to it, though.

Review: Magellan Maestro 4700 GPS

This premium GPS device packs plenty of features, but you can find many of them on lower-cost products, too.

Magellan Maestro 4700

The Magellan Maestro 4700 has a 4.7 inch touchscreen, voice commands, Bluetooth for hands-free cell phone use, lane guidance, 3D landmarks and AAA TourBook. In other words, it's loaded.

Stepping down to the Magelan Maestro 4370 you’ll drop to a 4.3″ screen and lose voice commands, but you'll gain the live traffic feature.

A Good Navigational Tool!

With an occupation that keeps me on the road, a working navigational tool is a must have. Having gone through my fair share of slow and inconsistent GPS products ranging from Garmin, TomTom and yes even Magellan through the years, one must really do...

Spoken Street Name Guide with text to speech is clear and precise ; Quick Spell automatically fills in the blanks and makes locating a destination easy ; Excellent routing and rerouting ; Ability to do multi-location routing ; AAA Tour Book

Menu system takes getting use to ; Turn-by-turn directions sometimes lists the same highway several times ; Head scratcher ; Doesn't always give you the most direct route (common with all GPS's)

Lots of Features but GUTLESS where it counts CANADA EH?

Most reviews of this model are from people that have just taken it from the box and driven 50 miles with it or have it it less than a day. Reviews that shouldn't even be allowed to appear here. I have owned this terrible mess for 6 months and regret...

Large 4.7? screen ; Auto-completion when entering addresses ; Padded skin to protect while not in use included ; OneTouch shortcut buttons very useful ; Side of the Road announcing for your destination a plus

I had a list of approx 18 items that were very substandard and gltchy with this model but 250 characters doesn't even come close to how many CONS I found with this unit after using it for 6 months

Good usability

Since this is my first GPS I have no others to compare it to. I chose it on the basis of comparisons of other brands and other Magellan models. Not all the features lived up to the advertisements. Menus take a lot of practice to use!!!! I wonder if...

Good visual display ; Good warning before the turn ; Maps the best way ; On map POI's are cool ; Phone connects but no address book. LG Cu405

Using the latest update (2.20) and the JUNE 2010 MAP: a test on sortest an fastest on a known 20 mile route produces values that should be the opposite. Thus the 3 out of 5 starts

works ok but map up dates are 2 years old

Trying to talk to the company at Magellan is just as bad as the maps. They have no idea about new maps or up grades.

out dateded mapes makes this a very bad GPS

what good is a GPS if the places you try & go are not listed or the gps can not find them ; I called Magellan & the told me the last up date was in 2008
