Buffalo MiniStation 500GB review

The world's first portable 500GB hard drive comes at a price

Loads of capacity, Lightning fast speeds, pocket-sized

It's expensive

This is a fantastic product - possibly the best portable hard drive on the market. However, the price will be enough to put off all but the most needy of computer-users.

Buffalo Ministation USB 3.0 review

It comes with plenty of software but slow performance means the MiniStation isn't a particularly great-value disk

Considering it costs more than other 500GB portable disks but doesn’t offer better performance, the MiniStation isn’t particularly great value at roughly 12p per gigabyte. The

Built Buffalo tough

I paid about $90 for this back in 2012, and it was definitely worth the extra money for a quality product! Funny, I just bought a 4TB Buffalo EX HD for $140. I hope it lasts like this one! Great company!

Easy to install, and transfer pictures/movies

None, had this for about 3 years now, and last I used it, it was working perfectly

So far so good...

I bought this with the intention of possibly changing out the hard drive with a SSD later or a larger one. Seems like it will be rather easy to open at this point. My only thought is that it would have been much nicer if they would have gone aluminum...

Very inexpensive for a thunderbolt drive. I also like that it is completely powered off the one cable. Speed seems to be much better than my USB portable hard drive that I paid more for last year. Also a big plus is that it comes with a thunderbolt...

So far I only have one con. The case while its aluminum on the bottom still feels very cheaply put together. The white plastic top feels kinda thin and I feel like I have to be more careful with it than other portable hard drives I have owned

BUFFALO HD-PCT500U3/B

I don't see why people complain about the flashing light.

Compact, quiet, and effective. The customer service is exceptionally good

The cord is a little short, so I had to purchase an extender. Nothing too big. Also, the read/write speeds are a little lower than I had initially expected, but are entirely acceptable

Works very well

The "proprietary connector" mentioned in some other reviews is NOT proprietary. This is the new USB3.0 micro connector.

Very speedy drive. USB3.0 makes a HUGE difference in transfer speed. I used this to back up ~250 GB of data, and the difference between this and my old WD external was very noticeable

None that I could see

Great Backup Drive

I've been needing a backup drive for a long time, and this was just perfect.

Fast transfers, varied between 40 and 60MB/s write doing a large backup via USB 3.0 ; Looks nice, small, blue/green activity light for USB 3.0/2.0 respectively ; Very well priced compared to other 500GB drives ; Very quiet. I can only hear it when I...

The smooth black surface collects fingerprints really easily

4 star

Overall I say it was a great purchase especially when I picked it up for 50 dollars.

Small, Light, portable. Runs very cool. I can barely feel any heat when this thing is reading or writing for long periods

I was expecting faster write speeds. I currently average about 40MB/s transfers, I was hoping somewhere in the 60MB/s range would have been nice ; I have a usb 2.0 external drive that transfer 28MB/s so incomparison yes its faster but not as fast as I...
