Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus (500GB) review

By Dong Van Ngo (cnet.com)

Fast write speeds; includes backup and restore utilities; generous warranty.

The backup utility is a bit limited; restore utility doesn't work for Mac users.

The Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus is a good choice for the average home user who wants a fast and simple-to-use external hard drive for backup and storage. Mac users will want to find a different restore utility to use with it.

One Touch 4 Plus External 750GB Hard Drive

By qualia (pcworld.com)

Power/activity light is a bit bright and annoying, but not a big deal; there is no power switch, but that hasn't affected me negatively; drive seems to spin down after less than a minute of non-usage, which can be bothersome when you are searching for fil...

72000RPM and 16MB cache is great combo for a drive this size; very quiet and very cool-running; speedy on firewire connection; feels solidly built; nice 5 year warranty.

Mildly annoying activity light; drive spins down too frequently (with my Mac, anyway); non-cubic, vertical form didn't fit well with my other drives.

One Touch 4 Plus External 500GB Hard Drive

By ssides (pcworld.com)

I purchased this on a Black Friday sale and got for way below list price. I have only used it mostly as an external hard drive, but the backup software seems straight forward. The only thing I do not like about the drive is that mine seems to have a minor...
