Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II 6TB

If size is your main consideration, then you do well to check out the Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II (6TB). Not only does it epitomize capaciousness, it's a nimble performer with enough versatility to last until you fill it up, which may...

Enormous capacity. FireWire 800 and eSATA connectivity. Compatible with Mac and Windows. Affordably priced. Can be configured for RAID 0/1

Bulky. No Thunderbolt connectivity

Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II 6TB Review

While we await more Thunderbolt storage devices, Western Digital grabbed headlines not too long ago for the announcement of its 6TB My Book Studio Edition II Mac-ready external drive. The two-bay external enclosure features two 3.5" Western Digital...

If you're a non-Thunderbolt Mac owner that needs a good amount of external storage, Western Digital's My Book Studio Edition II works well with no real issues. The only trouble I had with the setup is that down the road if you need to replace the...

Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II (4TB)

With up to 6TB of storage and support for both RAID 0 and RAID 1, the My Book Studio Edition II is the largest dual-bay external hard drive to date, in terms of storage space. It comes with multiple types of peripheral connections and allows users to...

The My Book Studio Edition II offers up to 6TB of storage, features RAID 0 and RAID 1, and supports USB 2.0, FireWire (400/800), and eSATA connections. The drive is fast and affordable.

The My Book Studio Edition II doesn't support USB 3.0 and internal hard drives made by other vendors. It runs hot, seems buggy at times, and doesn't come with an eSATA cable.

The My Book Studio Edition II makes a decent direct-attached storage solution for those who need to extend a computer's storage space or want a large backup drive. The drive's rather buggy firmware might turn many users away, however.

Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II

The Studio Edition II looks exactly like the Mirror Edition, except that it has a silver-painted exterior instead of glossy black. It has the same dimensions and the same dot- and dash-shaped cutouts on three sides for ventilation. The dots and dashes...

Capacious storage. Speedy. Low power consumption. Quiet. Easy to replace internal hard drives. Capacity indicator

A little pricey on a dollar-per-GB basis. Install disc contains crapware. Capacity indicator requires software installation. Backup is data oriented, not disaster-recovery oriented. eSATA cable not included

The Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II is the My Book Mirror Edition's big brother. It's the speedy one that hangs out with the creative types, especially those who use Macs.

Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II (4TB)

Its price may be daunting, but Western Digital's My Book Studio Edition II offers a massive 4TB of desktop storage, speedy transfers over eSATA and FireWire 800, and user-replaceable drives.

Massive storage space; user-replaceable drives; eSATA and FireWire 800 ports offer speedy transfers for Mac or PC

Pricey, but not unreasonable considering capacity; no eSATA cable included

Double your display real estate by adding a second monitor. It's a snap: Here's how

Western Digital MyBook Studio Edition II

The MyBook Studio Edition II from Western Digital is their brand new 2 terabyte portable hard drive that can be used to transport files, backup files, and share files among various computers, both PC and Mac. This device is specifically geared toward...

Large 2TB of storage ; Green" drives use less electricity ; User replaceable hard drives

eSATA cable is not included ; Front LED capacity indicator requires installation of a utility

Overall, the Western Digital MyBook Studio Edition II is mainly marketed for Mac users, but it will work just fine on PCs after you reformat the drives using the included utility as we mentioned earlier. The speed of eSATA or Firewire 800 makes it...

Review: Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II hard drive

Western Digital's My Book Studio Edition II external hard drive provides fast performance and a ton of data storage (1TB, in this case) in a box that's bigger than a dictionary.

The My Book SE II ships formatted for the Mac, using HFS+ with journaling. If you want to share this drive with a PC, you'll need to reformat it to FAT32, a Windows-friendly format that the Mac can read and write. Also, if you want to boot from an...

Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II (WDH2Q20000)

Although the Western Digital 'My Book' Studio Edition II is nominally aimed at Mac lovers, there's little to keep PC users from enjoying this flexible and energy-efficient 2TB unit.

Energy efficient, simple and elegant design, runs quietly, good software ;

Slower read/write speed than comparable devices ;

At a price of $699, this device offers 2TB of energy-efficient storage for 39c/GB. If you're a user who needs plenty of space constantly at the ready, then the My Book may be for you. If you're looking for performance, however, look elsewhere
