AKG k240 Studio Semi-Open Headphones Reviewed

Every company seems to be making headphones these days, to varying degrees of success. However, AKG has been at the game for a long time and demonstrate their pedigree with the k240 Studio headphones reviewed here.

The k240's build quality is exceptional and its looks, while retro, should appeal to both young and old. AKG has saved the flashy color schemes for its Quincy Jones line (which shares a lot of similarities with the k240) , though for those who would...

I often criticize headphones for having too short a cable. In the instance of the k240, it may be too long. Thankfully, it doesn't become tangled and is robust enough that you can coil it easily, but for personal on-the-go use, it may be too much ;...

The AKG k240 Studio headphones are nothing if not phenomenal overachievers. They manage to be good in the studio, as well as in the home, and do so in a way that is effortless and refined. Their sound quality is sublime and, despite their pro audio...

What can I say? They're AKG's

AKG K240's are semi-open, so many people don't use them in broadcast applications, because feedback can be a problem if you get near a "live" microphone. I do use K-240's for radio, and don't have the feedback issue, since I don't keep my headphone...

WOW, but missing one key aspect.

When my Dad first brought these home from a co-worker who had left the company, I didn't like them. The sound was flat, and I couldn't get over the fact that the bass had been reduced so much compared to the headphones that I had been using earlier. I...

Really nice sound for my Mac

I am very pleased with the sound of the K240MKII. I was an owner of the old 240's circa 1977 (sextet) which I loved but alas, they quit working some time ago. I have used Entymotics earbuds with my computers for the past several years -- they sound...

Definitely a Winner!

After buying my first set of headphones (Sony V6's w/velour) for traveling , I wanted a set for home use. These Headphones fit what I was looking for perfectly. Pros: fit those with a small head semi-open (huge sound stage) velour pads (a must in my...

Sound as retro as they look... Maybe a good thing, maybe bad

I own many headphones ranging from $20-$800 so I was able to compare these to just about everything. First off, I think these are very visually attractive headphones, so I really wanted to love them. That said, these have very mediocre bass response...

Do yourself a favor and get Audio Tecnica M50s instead

I've only owned 3 headphones - AKG K271, these, and The Audio Tecnica M50s. The M50s blow both out of the water. I was so underwhelmed when I first wore these it was shocking. I tried to return them a few weeks ago but it was passed the deadline to...

Product Specifications

The K 240 Studio is an update of the "classic" AKG K 240 Monitor. The K 240 Studio delivers even wider dynamic range and higher sensitivity than its well-known and widely used predecessor. The secret to the semi-open K 240 Studio's sound quality is the new XXL transducers in acoustically tuned vented enclosures with circumaural (around the ear) pads. The circumaural pads envelope your ears nicely and reward you with smooth, solid bass and well-balanced, articulate mids and highs.
