AKG K240 MKII Review

Over the years, different variants of the K240 have garnered a reputation of being the base-level standard when it comes to studio monitoring headphones. Budding audiophiles the world over take their first steps into serious listening with these...

Great performance across the spectrum, Semi-open (carves a good niche), Very light and comfortable

Build quality is a little questionable, Not the prettiest looking

AKG k240 Studio Semi-Open Headphones Reviewed

Every company seems to be making headphones these days, to varying degrees of success. However, AKG has been at the game for a long time and demonstrate their pedigree with the k240 Studio headphones reviewed here.

The k240's build quality is exceptional and its looks, while retro, should appeal to both young and old. AKG has saved the flashy color schemes for its Quincy Jones line (which shares a lot of similarities with the k240) , though for those who would...

I often criticize headphones for having too short a cable. In the instance of the k240, it may be too long. Thankfully, it doesn't become tangled and is robust enough that you can coil it easily, but for personal on-the-go use, it may be too much ;...

The AKG k240 Studio headphones are nothing if not phenomenal overachievers. They manage to be good in the studio, as well as in the home, and do so in a way that is effortless and refined. Their sound quality is sublime and, despite their pro audio...

AKG K240 MKII

Always listenable, but you can do much better at this money

Comfortable; spacious, even delivery; don?t leak as much as the fully open ?phones

Too soft to dig-up the finest details and dynamic nuances; needs a bit more punch

Very good, much better than Studio version

When I compare these to the newer Studio K240s, these win by a long shot. Not only in neutrality and detail, but in build design too. The Studios have a big mid bass hump that makes everything sound boomy. But the Monitor version has a very balanced...

Wonderful mids, comfortable, realistic sound, pretty good detail

rolled off bass, small soundstage, can be sibilant sometimes

The Refreshingly Tranquil Selection

Review on the AKG K240 MK. II It's been a while since I wrote up a review, and well...I'm back again with another write up! Introduction Lately, I've been on the prowl for a pair of headphones that offer the open/semi-open back design, as I was curious...

Wonderful headphones for a musician or sound engineer, and anyone who loves music.

AKG K-240 Studio are at least the 4th (really 5th or 6th?) iteration of K-240 design, which started with the K-240 Sextett in the 1970s, themselves a circumaural version of supra K-140. The basic idea behind the "Sextett" design is that the main...

Custom-tailored frequency response contasts notes better, meaning, they're easier to play in. Which is why they're often used for playing synths. Also very useful for sniping dirt in samples and fine-tuning mixes

Awful stock cable

Product Specifications

The K 240 Studio is an update of the "classic" AKG K 240 Monitor. The K 240 Studio delivers even wider dynamic range and higher sensitivity than its well-known and widely used predecessor. The secret to the semi-open K 240 Studio's sound quality is the new XXL transducers in acoustically tuned vented enclosures with circumaural (around the ear) pads. The circumaural pads envelope your ears nicely and reward you with smooth, solid bass and well-balanced, articulate mids and highs.
