Any headphone that brands itself as “Reference Class” better be damn good. This one is ; Build quality is very good. Smells like fine leather, if you like that sorta thing ; Great seal and isolation

There are cheaper (though not necessarily better) headphones out there ; Smells like shoes, if you’re not into that kinda thing. I assume the smell disappears after a while ; Not very portable. No mic, if you needed one. A little short on accessories...

AKG’s New Reference: The K550

To be honest I was never a big fan of AKG headphones. The K240 "Sextett", the K340 Hybrid Electrostatic, to the legendary K1000. Before the K550, the K701/K702/Q701...

Very accurate reproduction

I find these headphones very accurate and balanced overall. These are not Beats or Souls, with an over cooked bass. While that's impressive, it's not always correct. If the bass is present, you'll hear it in all it's glory. Midrange is smooth and...

Excellent sound, easy to drive with portable

may not form to the head if you've got a small noggin

In a word-Wow! I am very impressed with these headphones. I currently own three other pairs of good headphones, each of which has its particular strengths and shortcomings. The Audio Technica ATH-AD900s have a huge soundstage and lots of separation...

Not for first-timers [UPDATE]

I am not an audiophile, and as such I have low-quality, 160 kbps music and a standard iPhone DAC. I strongly believe that with this kind of setup, the AKG K550s will never shine. I bought them over the wonderful A900X and ESW9A from Audio-Technica...

Outstanding headphones!

These are by far the smoothest and most pleasant sounding headphones in my collection. There is absolutely nothing harsh about the sound. Great clarity and outstanding separation. The sound quality has improved with usage. At first I had some concern...
