Beats EP review: Good sound trapped by wired limitations

The Beats EP headphones offer exceptional sound for $130, but feature a wired design that limits their features and connectivity compared to wireless options.

Exceptional sound ; Reasonable comfort ; Good noise reduction

Durability questions ; Wired connection only

Beats' cheapest headphone is surprisingly good

The EP is an entry-level wired on-ear model that delivers solid bang for the buck.

Reinforced with stainless steel, the affordable Beats Ep is sturdily built and sounds good for the money. It's relatively comfortable for an on-ear model and includes an inline microphone for calls.

Doesn't fold up or fold flat; on-ear design has its downsides (clamps down on your ears).

The Beats EP may be a simple, wired, on-ear headphone, but it's arguably Beats' best headphone for the money.

Beats EP On-Ear HEADPHONES

The Beats EP On-Ear are surprisingly good critical listening headphones but are a bit tight on the head for long listening sessions. They're not as portable as some of the other on-ear headphones and the tight fit could be a bit uncomfortable for some....

Good audio reproduction. ; Sturdy build quality.

Poor noise isolation. ; Slightly tight on the head. ; Bass and treble delivery varies significantly across users. Sensitive to glasses.

Beats EP Review

Beats EP stereo headphones have a frequency response of 20 to 20,000Hz, which is the range of normal human hearing. Because of this, they provide incredible clarity, good balance and crisp bass. These headphones work with a wide variety of music genres...

The Beats EP headphones are affordable compared to higher-end models by the company, but they still have the same cool styling and crisp sound. They aren’t the most portable pair of headphones, with a headset that doesn’t fold and a cord that can’t...

Beats EP review

A solid offering for the price

Affordable price tag ; Solid sound for the price ; Cool, comfortable design

Headphone arms don’t fold down ; No wireless option ; Excessively long cable

The Beats EP are Beats headphones for the masses. Offering a more balanced sound and cheaper price tag than their big brothers, they appeal while still offering that iconic logo that’s so coveted by many. They’re not perfect, but for the price they’re...

Beats EP review

Beats makes plenty of headphones with sky-high prices, but its entry-level EP headphone is a surprisingly good value. The list price is $100, £90 and AU$140, but you can find it online in the US and UK for about a third off -- closer to $70 and £60.The...

Beats EP, a Beats headphone an audiophile could love

Could it be true? Beats makes a headphone for the audiophile crowd? The Audiophiliac thinks so!

The Beats EP on-ear headphones are one of the cheapest in the Beats range. Without the added expense of Bluetooth technology or noise cancelling, they could be a great way to get quality sound without spending too big. We sent these headphones to our...

Beats EP review: Beats on a budget are brilliant, not basic

Wallet-friendly price tag Comfortable for prolonged listening Cool, minimalist design

Sound isn't the fullest No wireless options Can't collapse for simple storage

The Beats EP are anything but cheap and cheerful. They're pleasingly affordable, yes, but back this up with some cool styling and solid if far from groundbreaking sounds. They're exactly what you'd want from a pair of headphones that sport that iconic...
