Bose AE2

If you can't afford Bose's noise-canceling models, the Bose AE2s--and their improved design and sound quality--make for a good alternative at half the price.

Lightweight and comfortable design; sealed earcups isolate wearer from ambient noise; headphones fold flat; detachable cord; detailed sound with well-defined bass

Sound can be a tad brash

Bose OE2i

Solid overall audio performance with strong bass response. Comfortable fit. Collapses and folds flat into carrying pouch

Open design means people nearby can hear your music. Deep bass at high volumes can rattle earcup enclosure

The Bose OE2i features built-in iPhone controls and laudable audio performance, but in this price range, there are more impressive options.

Bose OE2i Audio Headphones (White)

Here's something you don't see every day: a pair of white Bose headphones. Yes, it's the company's second-generation on-ear headphones, the OE2 ($149.95) and OE2i ($179.95), each offered in black or white.

The Bose OE2i Headphones are more compact than the original OE ("on-ear") headphones. They're lightweight, very comfortable, and feature a fold-up design with an included carrying case, a detachable headphone cord, and an inline remote and microphone...

The fidelity comes up short on bass resonance.

You can debate the price, but the iPhone-friendly Bose OE2is are very comfortable everyday-use headphones with a compact frame and balanced, detailed sound.

Bose AE2

Solid, distortion-free audio performance. Some unexpected sub-bass response. Very lightweight and comfortable. Folds flat for easy storage

Sculpted frequency response not ideal for audiophiles. ¼-inch adapter is not included

The Bose AE2 brings comfortable fit to a headphone pair that skips noise cancellation in favor of audio performance.

Bose AE2

Meet the AE2, an entry-level option from Bose. Despite the brand recognition and reputation of Bose, these headphones fall flat in performance for their price range. With a poor frequency response and some distortion issues, they may not be a good fit...

Overall, the Bose AE2s aren’t a bad entry-level bet, but you can definitely do better no matter what you’re looking for in headphones. The cost is a little hard to swallow for the performance they give, but if you can find them for cheaper than MSRP,...

Bose mobile in-ear headset

These premium earbuds offer excellent sound reproduction and a pleasing ergonomic design.

Comfortable, ergonomic design ; Very good audio quality ; 2.5mm adapters and case included

No noise cancellation technology ; Relatively high price ; Mediocre call quality

As a first effort, the Bose mobile in-ear headset is a good option for audiophiles who are looking for a pair of cell phone-capable headphones that are ready for the long haul. Though we would have better appreciated the audio quality of these buds had...

Bose OE

Editors' note (December 2, 2011): The product reviewed here, the Bose OE Headphones, has since been replaced by two updated models: the Bose OE2 Headphones and the Bose OE2i Headset . After testing those new models, we've lowered the ratings of this...

The Bose OE headphones have a compact design, extra-comfortable cushy foam earpieces, full sound, and they fold up for compact storage in their included carrying case. Additionally, Bose offers a 30-day home trial.

While they're cheaper than Bose's noise-canceling models, they're still fairly pricey.

If you're looking for a good value in Bose headphones, the company's OE (On-Ear) models makes a strong case--even if they're not cheap.

Bose In-Ear Headphones

The Bose In-Ear Headphones have undergone a bit of a design makeover since the initial release, but although they feel fine now, their sound is below par.

Plenty of low end. Comfortable and secure fit. Comes with lots of extra ear covers in different sizes. Nice carrying case.

Sound quality suffers from a lack of treble to match the strong low end.

Bose TriPort In-Ear Headphones (Black)

The Bose TriPort In-Ear Headphones have an unusual if not unique design. They resemble the earbuds that come with the Samsung Yepp YP-K5; they look like regular earbuds but with silicone tips that funnel the sound directly into your ear canals. The...

The Bose TriPort In-Ear headphones have strong bass and good overall detail, and they're not intrusive in your ear canal.

The Bose TriPort In-Ear headphones don't block out any noise, and the fit doesn't feel quite as secure as advertised. The silicone tips come off very easily, and pick up tons of dirt.

The Bose In-Ear Headphones are a hybrid set, falling right between regular earbuds and canalphones. They don't block out noise, but they do provide much more bass than stock earbuds--almost too much, in fact.

Product Specifications

Choosing headphones used to be a compromising game of "either/or." Either you picked the bulky pair with good sound or the stylish pair with weak sound. And comfortable fit? Most of the time that option wasn't even on the table. Until now. Introducing the new Bose TriPort headphones - the ideal combination of superior sound, extraordinary cushion and stylish design. Don't compromise the quality of your favorite music just because you're listening through a pair of headphones. TriPort headphones make high-performance audio completely portable and personal. Acoustic equalization delivers the rich sound your music deserves whether you're on the go with a CD player or connected to a computer. And you don't have to leave the thump of your bass behind. TriPort headphone technology faithfully reproduces deep, full bass without the need for any artificial bass boost. You want to feel the impact of your music, not the impact of your headphones. That's why Bose used advanced ergonomics and lightweight design to create the TriPort headphones. Soft ear cushions gently fit around your ears for comfortable listening. A thin, adjustable headband has several easy settings for your exact needs and the earcups swivel for added convenience. Plus, patented TriPort headphone technology further minimizes headphone size for a total weight of only five ounces. That's lighter than many of today's most popular cell phones. Enjoy your music in style with the TriPort headphones.
