Etymotic MC5 Earphones

Though the name Etymotic Research may mean little to those of us from the iPod generation, the company has no qualms about claiming the title of “world leader of In-The-Ear Technology”. Unlike most marketing claims, however, there is nothing immodest...

Stellar noise isolation; solid build quality; very clear, detailed, balanced, and accurate sound

Deep-insertion form factor takes getting used to; neutral and balanced sound won’t appeal to everyone

There is a second big caveat to the MC5, however, and that is the sound signature. The earphones are shamelessly accurate, impossibly neutral, and extremely clear. From a technical standpoint they are at the top of the game – leagues above mainstream...

Etymotic Research mc5

Entry level in-ears that punch far above their weight

Low distortion, near-perfect tracking; Isolate very well

Frequency response is off at the high end; In-ears get uncomfortable after a while

There isn’t much to say about the Etymotic Research mc5 headphones. While they’re not perfect, they squeeze a lot of audio quality into an $80 package. Really, the only thing keeping them from being a great set of iPhone headphone replacements is the...

Etymotic mc5 headphones review

One of the killer elements to the Etymotic headphones range is that they can be fitted with a mould that perfectly fits your ears. Of course that's an extra that will set you back around £70, but trust us when we say it is worth it.

Work with custom mouldings, sound good for vocals

Can't really cope with levels of bass

The mc5 might feature better tech than the hf2s, but while they are good, it's no cigar

Etymotic introduces a new entry-level model, and promises better bass response. Do they deliver?

Etymotic Research MC5 review

Etymotic's latest set of noise isolation earphones, the MC5s, are cheaper than the company's previous sets at just £55. We've been impressed with the noise isolation capabilities of previous models, but underwhelmed by their audio quality. Despite...

The MC5 earphones sound generally well-balanced, but their noise isolation isn't as effective as we hoped.

Leaner sound to rivals and not too bass heavy

Energetic sound; optional custom-fitting service

A little bass-light

Another Set

Cord is a little shorter than previous ear buds and could be another 6-12 inches for tucking in when running.

Incredible sound, painful under a helmet

I bought this product after reading reviews about the excellent sound isolating qualities of these earbuds. My goal was to use them while riding my motorcycle to wear under my full-face helmet, because they deliver the sound-isolating qualities that...

mc5\'s - put \'em in your ears!

I bought the mc5\'s to replace ER-6i\'s that just plain wore out. The mc5\'s sound as good as the ER-6i\'s and give the same isolation from excess outside noise. The sound quality is crisp and clear, although maybe the bottom end could be boosted a...
