Grado PS1000 review: Grado PS1000

Grado is one of America's oldest hi-fi companies. In the 1950s it manufactured phono cartridges, turntables, and speakers. While Grado still makes a full line of highly regarded cartridges (budget-priced all the way up to high-end models), it's perhaps...

Grado's most comfortable over-the-ear headphones sound great at home and with iPods; beautifully crafted wood and solid metal earcups; stellar build quality; includes 15-foot extension cable and phono-to-miniplug adapter.

Extremely expensive; doesn't include travel bag or storage case.

They may cost as much as a big-screen TV, but the PS1000s are simply the best-sounding, most comfortable, and best-looking Grado headphones we've ever tested.

Grado PS1000 Headphones (Playback 25)

Which I thought were exceptionally good headphones, I was thrilled when Grado offered a chance to review their maximum supreme PS1000 headphone ($1695). Given what Grado does at the $300 price point, I was curious in this review to see what they could...

Grado PS1000 review

Grado's £1,795 PS1000 headphones make high end speakers jealous

Tonally neutral to an extent most headphones and speakers only dream of, with detail to die for and effortless dynamics: revealing and involving in equal, large, measure

The combination of weight and rather hard headband can make long-term wearer comfort a serious issue

Differences between this model and other top headphones are really more a question of taste than of quality, which is undeniably high. Strongly recommended for audition: be prepared for a shock!

Grado PS1000

The Grado PS1000 - a high-end headphone bargain at just over £1,800?

Jaw-dropping sound ; They make you feel like a king ; Superb build quality

Jaw-dropping price ; They make you look like a bit of an idiot ; Very heavy

The Grado PS1000 is one of the most expensive pairs of headphones you'll find, but it's also one of the best. Powerful bass, wonderfully subtle-but-intense levels of detail and an incredible soundstage make this pair an unbridled joy to listen to, no...

Grado PS1000

They may cost as much as a big-screen TV, but the PS1000s are simply the best-sounding, most comfortable and best-looking Grado headphones we've ever tested.

Comfortable over-the-ear headphones ; Sound great at home and with iPods ; Beautifully crafted wood and solid metal ear cups ; Stellar build quality ; 4.5m extension cable ; Phono-to-mini-plug adapter

The PS1000s may not be the best headphones on every count — the Sennheiser HD 800s are more comfortable and offer a sound that's arguably a tad more "accurate" — but they're definitely the best Grado headphones ever made.

After our review of the GS1000i headphones we were inundated with emails, asking if we could review Grado's most expensive headphones, the elusive ‘Professional Series 1000′ (PS1000). With a staggering retail price around £1,700 these are a serious...
