Cheap, Cool Campus Tech

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Nobody has made a better pair of noise-cancellation headphones than Bose's Quiet Comfort 3. That said, the QC3 is ridiculously expensive, at $350. JVC recently unveiled the HA-NC80-J/-C (NC80), a pair of...

Two modes of noise cancellation decrease different types of ambient sound. Good audio quality. Cheap.

Uncomfortable. Low hum occurs when used with certain powered devices and noise cancellation is activated.

For a modest $40, these JVC headphones deliver decent noise cancellation plus good audio output.

JVC HA-NC80

The HA-NC80s' completely circular shape and relatively small 2.5-inch diameter are no doubt responsible for the uncomfortable fit. However, the headphones aren't overly tight--and the earcups have some cushy padding--so those with less sensitive ear...

The JVC HA-NC80 headphones are relatively inexpensive, and they include a dual-prong adapter for in-flight use, as well as a travel pouch.

The JVC HA-NC80's earcups are on the small side, making the headphones uncomfortable to wear for extended periods of time. The noise-canceling feature affects only low frequency sound.

Frequent fliers operating on a tight budget should consider the JVC HA-NC80 Noise Canceling Headphones, but those with sensitive ears might want to steer clear.

"Regarding price, very good product"

My review is based on the Sony MDR NC7 that I return to the shop because:

- 2 noice cancelling (NC) levels

- ear padding made with mica probably will not resist at long term

"Superior sound quality at an affordable price."

Bought these at the dutyfree store in Melbourne airport for my trip back to Auckland. At only $75.00 AUD, you can't go wrong. I didn't expect the sound quality to be this exceptional. The highs, lows and mids were all very balanced (plenty of bass...

Exceptional sound quality, noise cancelling worked well on the plane, over-the-ear cups were very snug and comfortable, can be folded away for easy transport.

Headphones are a little on the wide side, hard carry case would have been better over soft carry pouch.

"Not very noise canceling"

The main reason I bought these headphones was to block out noisy office chatter - but I'm very dissappointed. As the CNET revew says, it only blocks out low-frequency noise. I have to turn up the volume way too loud to block out ambient sounds.

Decent pair of headphones - good sound, comfortable.

They don't bloclk most noise.

"You get what you pay for"

As I stated in the summary, you get what you pay for, with that being said, the noise canceling ability does work. I use my headphones at work, and sit under a cold air return. While the NC80's didn't cancel the noise completely, it did reduce the...

nice sound, good noise cancelling ability.

Could use a little more base, comfortable on the ears but might get a little uncomfortable for long periods of time.

Product Specifications

With the JVC HANC80 noise-canceling headphone, now you can choose the most effective noise cancel mode for the circumstances. HANC80 offers both "wide" and "low" noise cancellation modes. The "wide" mode targets a wider frequency range than the "low" mode, and cancels the type of noise typically found in a commercial jet cabin. The "low" mode cancels a slightly narrower and lower frequency range, one associated with the noise generated by trains and buses. The HANC80 deliver up to 75% noise reduction, and also comes with fully padded closed earpieces which help to block ambient noise, and the padded soft touch headband ensure that they'll remain comfortable throughout a long listening. It also offers a flat foldable style so that they're easy to carry or pack, and comes with a carrying pouch and a dual-plug adapter.
