Monster Inspiration Active Noise Cancellation Headphones Review

It used to be that you were judged on what music you listened to – now it's what brand of headphones you choose to listen to it with. Monster segued from cables to cans back in 2008 and, with the dissolution of the Beats Electronics partnership this...

Whether they’re worth $299.99, however, is questionable. Viewed solely as a way to enjoy music, the Monster Inspiration headphones can be fussy about their fit (though are comfortable when you have it right) and are certainly tuned to a particular...

Monster Inspiration headphones (passive noise cancellation, black)

As many of you already know, Monster had a partnership with Beats to manufacture Beats by Dr. Dre headphones, which now come in a variety of styles and sizes. Not too long ago the two companies severed ties, but that hasn't stopped Monster from making...

The Monster Inspiration headphones are comfortable, have good build quality, and offer impressive, rich sound with good detail and punchy bass. They come with three detachable headphone cables, microphone options for iOS and Android mobile devices, and...

The Inspiration is a fairly bulky headphone set and pretty pricey -- and the extra headband covers are priced too high at $30.

While the Monster Inspiration headphones aren't a bargain, their combination of excellent sound and solid build quality, plus a decent accessory package, makes them worth a long look if you're considering a full-size pair of headphones in the $250 to...

Monster Inspiration

With super-crisp highs and booming lows, the Monster Inspiration pair of headphones offers a very sculpted sound signature that never distorts.

Strong bass response. Doesn't distort even at top volumes. Not only is the cable removable, but the headphones come with three cables total. Works with iPhones and most other mobile phones

Exaggerated highs and lows won't appeal to audiophiles seeking flat response. Removable headband and overall design is not for everyone

Monster Inspiration Active Noise-Canceling Headphones

Monster headphones are immensely popular, but often not with critics. Although more recent models have reversed that trend a bit. Brian Kahn takes a listen to the Monster Inspiration headphones to see where they fall.

The Inspiration provides a sonic presentation that will please many listeners with strong bass without overpowering the midrange ; The ControlTalk system combines a microphone with easy-to-use controls for iPhones and other devices. Users of other...

The Inspiration required careful positioning to prevent the ear cups from pinching my ears. I found that I had to slide them back and forth to get the pads to surround my ears rather than rest on them ; The clamping force was too light to keep the...

The Inspiration headphones address the rapidly growing group of listeners who consider headphones as much a fashion statement as a piece of audio equipment. The ability to change the Inspiration's appearance by swapping out headbands will appeal to...

"Overpriced and underperforming"

Forget this unit, pay a tad more and get PSB M4U-2 noise cancelling headphone instead. Built like a tank, hardly any added hiss in active mode, can be used as passive headphone without battery installed, accurate and natural enough to be used as a...

Stylish, the most "natural sounding" headset from Monster

Generates lots of hiss when noise cancelling is turned on, sound quality is still very far from natural, useless when the battery die (can not be used as a passive headphone without the batteries installed.

AWESOME!

Amazing sound. If you want a full spectrum of sound. If you want a more bassy sound the beats by dr dre would be better for you. But these headphones have enough bass for my liking.

sound quality, good design - stylish, different headbands can be added

expensive, some parts of the headphone feel too plasticy
