Onkyo ES-HF300 review

The Onkyo ES HF300 are the brand's first headphones, but without an inline remote or control gimmicks, are they worth a listen?

Rugged build ; Detailed sound ; Stylish design

No inline remote

There's a bucket of bass here if you're after something like Beats cans and, against the £169 Beats By Dre Solos, they beat them hands down for detail. They may not have the same build quality, but they sound better and are just as tough.

Onkyo's first headphones combine power and class.

Good-looking ; Great mids and treble ; Removable cable

Bass spike

Good-looking, well-made and more keenly-priced than most of the better-known competition, the Onkyo ES-HF300 headphones are a smart and successful entry to the buzzing headphone market for Onkyo. However, they do focus a little too much on the low-end...

Easygoing and comfortable to listen to, Onkyo's debut headphones are well worth an audition

Detailed midrange and treble ; Easy to listen to for long sessions ; Nice design and build ; Comfy

Tubby bass needs more precision

The only thing holding these Onkyo headphones back from a five-star full-house is that slightly louche quality to the bass.

Onkyo's first foray into headphones is a great success. Sounding and looking beautiful, all that's missing from the package is an in-line remote for mobile playback control. A well balanced tuning, they'll compliment many different genres of music, and...
