Sennheiser HD 428 Over the Ear Headphones Reviewed

While Sennheiser has a long and well-earned pedigree, which the HD 428 over the ear headphones are now part of. However, given the performance and price point, the HD 428 will be facing some stiff competition.

The HD 428 is a stylish but understated headphone that features well-sourced plastics and soft touch rubber ; The HD 428 is comfortable to wear for long periods of time ; The HD 428's sound is natural though it skews to the leaner side of neutral,...

The HD 428 doesn't rest securely around all ears meaning its sound isolation capabilities are not ideal, which may or may not be a deal breaker ; At the extremes or at extreme volumes the HD 428's sonic performance does become a bit one dimensional and...

It's hard to argue with a $100 over-the-ear headphone with a Sennheiser pedigree - for which the HD 428 has both. However I'm not sure the HD 428 gets my blanket endorsement for while I liked many aspects of its performance, it does face some stiff...

Sennheiser HD 428 Headphones

Great headphones that are built for the studio, now in your home

These headphones provide great sound quality throughout all the ranges of sound. The crosshair design provides longetivity. The closed-back design cancels out background noise

The lead cable on this pair of headphones is considered to be a bit too long for home use

This is a Sennheiser studio headphone set that provides the awesome quality of sound that professional sound recording artists are always looking for. Thanks to its unique cross-hair design, the durability of the headphone set is ensured to a great...

Sennheiser HD-428 Headphones

Without a flashy design, these cans stick with the tried and true black color scheme. Adorned on each side are padded ear cups and a pad on the top of the band goes across the top of your head. The total weight of the headphones, including the cable,...

Tight bass, balanced mids and vocals, transparent soundstage, very comfortable, scratch resistant build and reasonable $80 price tag

Short cable limits their versatility, not travel friendly

Finally, the HD 428s cannot be folded and are not travel friendly. They don’t fit easily into a laptop bag or a small tote bag. If you plan to bring your headphones with you wherever you go, you'll be best served with choosing a more portable model.

Bought for flying

Light weight, awesome sound, and a great price. Although they are not noise canceling, they worked better then expected on a flight from Chicago to Seattle

Worried about the very thin cord

Consumer review by:

Very durable

Others are poorly rating because they say they feel light and cheaply made, but being light means you can wear them for hours without irritation. The cable is thin, but has withstood 4 years of use and abuse.

Sound quality is great! I've had these for about 4 years, and they still work like the day I got them. About 2 years ago I accidentally stepped on them and broke the left ear cup nearly off, then duct taped it back on. They are still working in fine

The cable is short, so it is not so good for use with good for stereos and computers, but it's not really a con because a short cable is great for use with mobile devices

Ehhhh

could use thicker, more durable cord

Descent sound quality, good design

Not worth the original price of $100, waaaay to much flimsy plastic, hardly even portable, bass could be a bit heavier, packaging seemed cheap

Wonderful headphones for price

All in all, I am very satisfied with these headphones. Picked them up very cheap via "Shell Shock" deal. They easily compare to any mid-grade headphones available, and some high-dollar headphones as well. I wear these headphones nearly 8-hours, 5-days...

I love how these headphones fit OVER my ears; meaning they apply little to no pressure on my ears. This makes them easily the most over-the-ear budget headphones I've ever used ; Sound quality is better than expected - very crisp ; Fairly light weight,...

Cable is a bit short and thin. Though this hasn't caused any issues yet, as I primarily use them at work (cable is perfect length for that) ; Doesn't produce much bass

Great for the price

Got em for $33. Fairly comfortable. Lows are balanced. Highs are crisp. Very neutral headphones

3 ft cable. Had to buy a male to female extension but they are less than a buck on monopric3
