Sennheiser HD 558

In the modern era of headphones, the focus is often on compatibility with mobile devices and computers, not to mention booming bass or wireless use. Thus, it's truly refreshing to see a no-frills headphone pair like the Sennheiser HD 558 . At $179.95...

Superb audio performance with rich bass and excellent sense of space. Extremely comfortable. Strong value for price

Open design projects some sound outward?not ideal for recording studio or office use. Connection is ?-inch?high quality, but not ideal for listening on mobile devices or computers

The no-frills Sennheiser HD 558 is easily one of the best-sounding headphone pairs available in its under-$200 price range, but it isn't designed for easy use with mobile devices or computers.

Sennheiser HD 558

Meet the HD 558, Sennheiser's successor to its successful HD 555 open-backed headphones. While it doesn't appear at first glance that Sennheiser changed much in the HD 558, it does provide a decent performance bump from the older headphones, and users...

Very flat frequency response for mids, highs ; Replaceable cable ; Aesthetically pleasing

90Hz and below drops off substantially

Fantastic mid-range headphones.

Sennheiser HD 558

The Sennheiser HD 558s are impressive mid-range headphones.

Very flat frequency response for mids, highs; Replaceable cable; Aesthetically pleasing

90Hz and below drops off substantially

For the price you’d pay, the Sennheiser HD 558s offer a good level of sound quality, comfort, and aesthetic appeal, and are the worthy successors to the Sennheiser HD 555s. The Sennheiser HD 558s are impressive mid-range headphones.

Sennheiser HD 558 review

Sennheiser's HD 558s are well made and reasonably attractive, but have a plasticky appearance at odds with their £150 price. The design is practical, though, as well as comfortable for extended wear. If you wear glasses you could find the headphone...

Sennheiser’s HD 558 headphones are expensive but sound beautiful and feel like they should last for years.

Sennheiser HD 558

The Sennheiser HD 558 give you great sound quality and supreme comfort for less than £150.

Refined, detailed sound ; Detachable cable ; Extremely comfortable

Grille looks a little cheap

The Sennheiser HD 558 are an excellent entry point into high-end audio. Detailed, refined and smooth-sounding, they never offend the ear and don't spend any time on surface level details like the HD 598. They skip between genres, and between music,...

Sennheiser HD 558

They trade aggression for smoothness, but these headphones are a comfortable and pleasant listen

Smooth, rich sound ; Punchy and dynamic ; Forgiving and easy-going character ; Expressive vocals ; Soft and comfortable to wear ; Sleek, compact design

Need more attack and excitement ; Not as agile, subtle or open as rivals

If you want attack and excitement from your headphone sound, go elsewhere: try the Grado SR80is or the Philips Fidelio X1s.

Great headphones

Really clear sound and even better if you do the foam mod on them. I use mine on my Onkyo amp at night for great sound quality and dont have to comprise sound quality with game headsets.

If you have a android they may sound low if you dont have a mini amp. I heard that iphones have the power to run them. If your phone doesn't have the power to run them so they get loud enough and retain their bass. FiiO sales a mini amp on this site...

my personal experience is truly a 1 egg rating i prefer my old cruddy turtle beach x41's to these (xbox360 headset im using with my pc) and since most of you probably doubt me at this point, yes i am using an amplified sound card, 600 ohm amp, so that...

They are nice headphones... i guess. I don't want to hate on them too much because i feel like it's personal preference therefore i'm not putting the eggs through the floor. they do have good build quality and feel very nice.

No amount of EQ in the world can bring the treble out in these headphones it doesn't matter what i do. also when it says open style it means OPEN don't just shrug it off. my dad was across the house when i had them at 1/4 volume and was complaining for...
