Sony Fontopia Headphones (White)

Earbud-style headphones are ultracompact and extremely portable, but most offer substandard sound and don't fit well. Sony's Fontopia MDR-EX71SL, listed at $50 (but widely available for less), is one of the few earbud models that rise above the fray,...

Ultracompact and comfortable; included carrying case and extension cord; sounds better than most earbud-style sets.

Some less expensive, nonearbud headphones sound better; not ideal for runners; cord length and behind-the-neck styling may be problematic for some users.

If you're searching for reasonably priced premium earbuds, stop here and take a hard look at the Sony MDR-EX71SL headphones.

"Decent sound but bad design"

I just can't get over how stupid the design of this product is. Notice how they don't provide a picture of the wires...that's for good reason. They made the main wire very short and the extension wire WAAAAY too long and I can't for the life of me...

Sound quality is decent and the rubber earpieces block out external noise quite well. They did last 2-3 years so the quality is also pretty good. Worth the money.

Absolutely mind-numbingly stupid design. As I'm sure several people before me have pointed out, the wire leading to the right side is WAY longer than the left side. Additionally, the extension is so long that it gets caught on everything.

"Simply Incredible"

Highly recommend. better performance than my friends $300 Shure set and much more durable. One of the few electronics i've ever bought that has lasted. Sony nailed it with these

Awesome sound, great bass, comfortable, extremely well made-I have honestly had these phones for about 5 years and used them daily...still playing like new. Great sound isolating properties...for yourself and others around you. light and compact.

tend to fall out of your ears when exercising. Short cord can be frustrating. White color gets dirty. Rubber ear pieces can fall out easily.

I purchased these headphones six months ago to replace my stock Apple headphones that came with my iPod.

Decent Sound

Silicone earbud will get stuck in your ear canal, earbuds dirty easily, wire easily tangles and gets caught at the gym.

"great cost-benefit"

i'd really like to hear what the editor considers 'better sounding headphones'!

sound quality

outweighed by sound quality

"Good while they last."

You think that these headphones should be able to put up with a little abuse from tugging them out from the cord. Sadly they do not. I wanted a pair of cheap headphones that sounded great for the gym but these couldn't stand the abuse I gave them. Stay...

Worked great...

...for the short time that they did work.

"Ultra comforable, great sound, reasonable price!"

I had these earbuds for roughly 6 months til I lost them, along with my ipod (thats another story!) I found them to be the best sound I've ever heard from any headphone variety. And the comfort is amazing. Switching back to cheaper ones was painful, in...

Very comfortable, amazing sound, compact, lightweight

both cords together too long, earbuds easy to lose, spare ones expensive.

"While the cable build needs lots of work, these headphones provide excelllent sound and comfort."

If you're looking for great headphones at around $50, then you'll love these. The MDR-EX71SLs have amazing sound quality. The mids and highs are projected in your ear clearly, loudly, and sharply. The bass response is also excellent, if not a bit too...

Excellent sound (Including bass response), Good sound-blocking, Very comforatble, White color matches iPods well, cool carrying cases.

The original wire cable is way too short, and the extension provided makes it way too long, Wires also feel thin and flimsy.

"Not nearly worth the money"

Several folks have written thoughtful and very positive reviews of these headphones, so I hesitated to write a dissenting view - perhaps I'm missing something (good seal between the headphones & ears, I don't appreciate what I'm hearing, etc.).

Comfortable in ear

Cord length is horrible; treble is painful at slighter higher volumes; bass does not exist
