Sony MDR-AS40EX

Sony's MDR-AS40EX earphones cost a manageable $40 and are perfect for use in the gym or jogging. But their suitability in this regard does not translate into excellent sound performance overall. The MDR-AS40EX lacks tremendous bass; even the $20...

Reasonably priced. Crisp, clean audio delivery. Multiple fit options for secure ear placement. Ideal for the gym.

Lacks deep bass. Over-ear solution is a bit awkward.

The MDR-AS40EX is intended for active (read: gym) use. It lacks deep bass but fits securely and doesn't have much "cable thump."

Sony MDR-AS40EX Active Headphones

A good deal.... a little pricey.... but so far they are worth it.

I like the over-ear design, and the streamlined profile. They sound great - good balance of bass, mids, and treble. Ignore the negative comments on this site that talk about "no bass". The bass sounds great

The only negative: the main cord is about 4 inches too short. They do give a nice 4 foot extension cord. BUT... if the main cord was a little longer, I wouldn't need it. I always clip my MP3 player to my belt

Sony MDR-AS40EX Active Headphones

I didn't like these headphones at first because they weren't as straightforward as the "just put them in your ear and listen" pair I had before, however once you find the right size clips/buds and you get used to putting them on you'll see that they're...

Comfortable fit

Takes a few days of getting used to

Sony MDR-AS40EX Active Headphones

Good value for the cost.I use them with a portable player while active. Work needed on the instructions and ear fittings.

In the end, I think that the sound for the price(base included)is good. The phones are relatively unobrusive, have a short cord and are light

Un daunted I stumbled on a solution. Put the ear fittings on the drivers backwards! This works and the sound is totally acceptable. I think that the instructions are flawed. I also find that the specified impedence of 16 ohms can't be right

Sony MDR-AS40EX Active Headphones

I have used these headphones 5-6 days a week while at work for anywhere from 5-8 hours a day. I am a mailman so I am very active. Lots of stretching and bending and head movements from side to side. These headphones never budge and never pop out unless...

Very comfortable with decent sound. I love the way that they conceal very nicely. You can barely tell they are wearing them. They stay in my ears period; even when very active

I like to wear my Zune on my hip. I am 6'3. The normal cord isn't long enough, but when I add the extension the excess sometimes gets caught on my shorts back pocket

Sony MDR-AS40EX Active Headphones

I used these headphones for running. Because normal earbuds tend not to stay in my ear, I figure that the ear loop would help keep them in place. I was wrong. They continuously fall out. This is also the second pair of Sony headphones in a row that...

Absolutely None

this was my 3rd set. I love them but will not keep buying them. This last set lasted less than 3 months before the sound stopped coming from the right ear piece. None have lasted past 10 months.
