The final solution for me and my wife

I bought these phones in Czech Republic from local Sony dealer. I had the HD-600 for 3 years and wanted to try the MDR-F1 just to know how good they are. I auditioned them in a noisy shop and even there they sounded to me more "right" than my beloved...

beautifully coherent, non-headphone, speaker-type sound, looks great

low efficiency, pick up noise from some sources

Sony's high-tech luxury for your ears

The Sony MDR-F1 is a relatively little-known and almost mysterious headphone that you won't find at your local Best Buy. Read on to learn it's secrets and whether it's right for you.

Excellent build/materials/comfort, fantastic sound, light, quality, fully open

Price, inappropriate for noisy/public places due to open design

comfortable and clean

These pare of cans sound very good, in fact better than Sennheizer 570 (at least for me). I use them for various types of music from classic to rock (Hammerfall in particular) and found MDR-F1 to be simply outstanding. I don't feel that bass is...

very comfortable, clean sound, no need for special amplifier

Low impedance, Low efficiency. Slightly recessed high treble

F1 Is Light and Comfortable, But No Bass

This is an interesting pair. Unlike other Sony headphones, this pair is fully open headphones. Although there is no protection from outside noise, the sound is airly and wonderful at times. There is no annoying resonance.

Mid and High are good. No annoying resonance. Light and comfortable. Any Source

No bass. A bit expensive for the performance you get. You hear outside noise
