Sony MDR-NC50 review

Sony MDR-NC50

Over-the-ear design; effective ear seal provides ambient noise isolation; powerful bass response; Monitor switch kills music to let in outside sound; storage case.

Punily powered MP3 players lack the muscle to crank over these 'phones.

Excellent noise abatement, powerful bass, and detailed sound are all pluses, but some users may find the MDR-NC50s a bit uncomfortable over the long haul.

We expect quality from Sony...

Good sound quality

Poor build ; Cumbersome

Sennheiser has nothing to fear from these in terms of competition

These are quite weird, cumbersome headphones from Sony. We're familiar with the MDR range from years of using MDRV-700 DJ headphones for outdoor work and DJing

Good sound quality

Poor build, Cumbersome

Sennheiser has nothing to fear from these in terms of competition

Consumer review (cnet.com)

You get what you pay for.

Great pair of noise cancelling headphones if you cannot afford the Bose price. The drawbacks mentioned on all other reviews (including the high pitched noise) do not outweigh the positives. For the price, it's a great bang for the buck purchase. 6/10...

If Bose noise cancelling headphones give you a headache or too much pressure, these are a great set to get the noise canceling benifits without the headache. Used them on various mid-range flights. I was very pleased with my set.

Noise cancelling not as good as Bose QC series. There is a high pitched sound that happens when you press the headphones closer to your head or press on a wall as others have mentioned. Acoustics overall are very good, but not life-altering.

Warning - don't make a mistake

This review is to warn people of what may be (and was mine) a mis conception about these headphones. They should be only for people who travel or live in downtown new york :) and only for those people who listen to classical music. I listen to Metal....

Excellent sound quality ; Excellent material and construction quality ; Solid noise cancelling

Most uncomfortable ; Expensive ; Weak little wire for a studio headhpone

not so good

I may have had a bad head set, but since they weren't very comfy, they went back. I have used S**nheiser PC150 full headset without no issue for the past year.

Noise cancellation good, when it works. The sound quality is pretty good

I didn't find them comfortable. they seemed to squeeze my head ; Had these for about two weeks. I used them at work and had no complaints. When i was on a long flight to tokyo, i get a horrible feedback squeal in the left ear peice. It got so bad that...
