Sony MDRV6

The Sony MDR-V6 definitely qualifies as a classic headphone. It was introduced way back in 1985, and while Sony has since released a string of "improved" and more expensive V6 inspired models -- the MDR-V600, MDR-7506 , and MDR-7509HD -- the...

The Sony MDR-V6 closed-back, full-size headphones sound great and are comfortable to wear for hours at a time. Their sound is also very well-balanced and crisp -- they sound great for the money.

With its coiled, pro-style cable and lack of an inline remote/microphone, some will find the V6s less mobile-friendly than more modern headphones.

They may be close to 30 years old, but the comfortable fitting Sony MDR-V6s are arguably the best-sounding headphones for under $100.

Sony MDR-V6

With fantastic audio quality for a low price point, the Sony MDR-V6s are great studio monitors for the music hobbyist or student who isn't ready to shell out several grand for a setup at home. These headphones have been around for a long time, and it's...

Sony may not call the MDR-V6s "Old reliable," but they'd earn the moniker.

Sony MDR V6

Great rich sound, crisp bass response without distortion or washiness. Super comfortable, padded headband and big enough to cover your whole ear to keep outside sound out

Somewhat larger than most headphones, they're moderately bulky for portable audio. Ear padding is comfortable, but can tear or fray with extended use. External wires sometimes get twisted and tangled in the foldable design

These headphones provide clarity and durability while remaining comfortable and versatile. They're really good for listening to music, mixing and tracking.

"Amazing Value, Excellent sound, a Classic"

The following review I copied from one I wrote on another website; I have the rights to re-post it.

Extreme value, jaw dropping sound stage, wonderful and accurate reproduction of any kind of music

I can't marry a pair of headphones, and I guess I had to pay for them

"The Best Investment in Full Ear Headphones"

I have no idea how CNET missed one of the best full ear headphones ever. I bought these headphones at Fry's electronics and have never regretted it. The bass thumps well without being lossy. It is also responsive to the mid and high ends of music....

Encloses the entire ear

Earpad cushions deteriorate (replaceable)

"The editors of cnet missed the best sound on non noise reducing headphones around."

Users of this cite rate them 9.4. That score is unheard of and there is a reason. I am a musician and have had these over 10 years. Truly phenominal sound reporduction. The bass is clear and low, even on low volume- unheard of on other headphones....

The best sound outside a studio. Frequency respone 5-30,000. Terrific sound. Still around $100.

Nothing except size that some don't like, but after they hear them, anyone who appreciates music wants one.

"Impressed by Sony"

I can't hear myself type when I use them. The sound produced even at max volume can't be heard by others around as long as the headphones are pressed against something, either themselves or your head. Perfect for work. Its adjustable head strap works...

Quality, Price, Noise Cancelling

Cord wound like old telephone cord.

MDR-V6 - Excellent Buy

Comfortable, durable, easy to stow and detailed sound.

Cord is rather heavy on the head if listening from far away.
