Sony MDR-Z1000

The Sony MDR-Z1000s ($549 MSRP) are a mid-range set of over-ears that, while extremely durable, have some glaring flaws in their sound performance compared with their competition. They are definitely well-suited to perform as a set of headphones that...

Not bad, but we’d wait on picking them up until they came down in price.

A scientific, in-depth analysis with side-by-side comparisons

Ignoring the price, the Sony MDR-Z1000s are a durable set of over-ears that will probably have longevity on their side over other headphones, but you certainly pay for that. It may not be as hard to swallow that high price tag if the MDR-Z1000s were...

Initial thoughts on the Sony MDR-Z1000 compared to the AKG K702

First, as a long time passive observer of this forum and I must say that what has interested me most about all of the reviews and comments here is how we all seem to hear differently. No surprises there since each of us has unique physiologies and...

controlled bass, good detail, clear rich sound, solid construction

LOUD, a bit bass heavy to my ears

Sony MDR-Z1000

When amped, from a full sized setup, these have a great sound quality (tonality) ; Not bass monsters (some may class this as a negative, however, for anyone striving for a 'pure', 'accurate' sound, these are much more rewarding than the boom-boom-boom...

Need a dedicated headphone amp to really shine (then again, you wouldn't spend this much money without expecting that to be the case!) ; Headband can creak when walking around (contact between the headband and the port at the top of the main units) ;...
