Bowers & Wilkins P5 Mobile Hi-Fi Headphones

Bowers & Wilkins' P5 Mobile Hi-Fi Headphones have blown away several of our long-held beliefs: First, they've demonstrated that circumaural muffs aren't the only means of isolating outside noise and preventing sound leakage in a traditional headphone...

Exquisite sound, impeccable design, decadent comfort

300 list price renders them expensive; too-short cable

Pull off the magnetic ear pads and you’ll find 40mm mylar diaphragms driven by neodymium magnets. The phones come with two cables: a conventional cord with 1/8-inch jack and a ¼-inch adapter, and a second featuring an in-line remote control and...

Fine Tuned

From audio quality to aesthetics, Bowers and Wilkins' revised P5 improves upon its predecessor in every way.

Redesigned drivers yield a bigger soundstage with crisp, detailed sound. Tighter, more controlled low end compared to the previous version. Small but thoughtful design tweaks mean less stress on cable and a sharper overall look

Still pricey

Bowers & Wilkins P5-MFI

The Bowers & Wilkins P5-MFI headphones are a well-designed set of headphones with an upper-mid-range price point of $300. This set of stylish on-ears is meant to be portable, but their size doesn't allow for easy storage in a pocket: you'll need to...

While expensive, the P5-MFIs offer good audio quality and a professional appearance in a portable package.

Bowers & Wilkins P5 Mobile Hi-Fi Headphones

Ultra-high-end audio purveyor Bowers & Wilkins began designing consumer-level products a few years back, with its Zeppelin iPod dock ($599 list, ). Now, B&W is trying its hand at headphones. At $299.95 (list), the P5 Mobile Hi-Fi Headphones aren't...

Excellent audio performance. Extremely comfortable. Handsome design and carrying case. Relatively lightweight. Equipped with iPhone/iPod in-line remote control

Expensive. Despite the claim, offers no noise isolation

With the P5, Bowers & Wilkins gracefully enters the consumer headphone market with a stunning design that's comfortable and sonically superb.

Bowers & Wilkins P5

In recent years, Bowers & Wilkins (B&W), one of the more legendary names in British hi-fi, has been making an effort to appeal to a more mainstream audience beyond its audiophile roots. It's put out a line of uniquely styled Zeppelin iPod speaker...

Excellent build quality and rich, well-balanced sound; removable earpads; built-in mic and volume control turns the P5 into a headset for compatible iPhones and iPods; tight seal shuts out a lot of external noise and headphones don't leak sound;...

Expensive; leather earpads will cause your ears to get steamy on warmer days.

B&W's P5s aren't cheap, but they're well built, offer a unique design, rich sound, and a built-in microphone for making calls.

Heavenly Headphones Create Symphony Hall for Your Ears

They may be constructed of metal and leather but these headphones are actually comprised of 100-percent attention to detail.

Sounds so sweet, you’ll want to re-rip your entire music library into lossless files. Memory foam earpads block a ton of ambient noise. Go ahead and wear ‘em in public — the low-profile headphones won’t make you look like a ham radio operator....

One small gripe: The tiny sub-earpad tab that holds the cable in its routing channel is poorly machined and sharp enough to cut the rubber cord jacket. Pricey? Yep. Worth it? No doubt
