Skullcandy PLYR 1 Gaming Headset

The Skullcandy PLYR 1 gaming headset combines wireless performance, simulated surround sound, and flexible connectivity into a single attractive package.

Excellent sound quality. Strong bass. Optical audio passthrough. Charging base doubles as a stand for the headset when not in use

Can't offer true surround sound. Headset can feel slightly cheap compared to more high-end gaming headsets

You can't get true surround sound in headphones. This makes designing gaming headsets tricky, when directionality can offer an edge. Fortunately, while true surround sound isn't possible in a headset, you can get a passable facsimile with stereo...

Skullcandy PLYR 1 Gaming Headset

The Skullcandy PLYR 1 gaming headset combines wireless performance, simulated surround sound, and flexible connectivity into a single attractive package.

I played a few rounds of Team Fortress 2 with the PLYR 1, and it performed admirably. While the surround sound effect wasn’t “genuine,” it provided the slightest illusion that the Heavy firing his mini-gun behind me was actually behind me, thanks to a...

Skullcandy PLYR 1 Wireless Gaming Headset Review

The first game I played with Skullcandy's PLYR 1 headset was The Last of Us.That's not a point in its favor, or a knock, for that matter. Rather, it's a funny coincidence. The Last of Us is the best PlayStation 3 game I've ever played. Skullcandy's...

Sound is stellar. WOW ; Ease-of-use and PC compatibility ; Stylish and comfortable

Weird volume dial design ; Tinny treble extremes ; Snug out of the box

If you don't already own the market-leading ASTRO A50s, Skullcandy's PLYR 1 Wireless Gaming Headset is the next best thing--terrific sound, ultra-convenient, and much cheaper to boot.

Like most, I take pride of ownership on these things, meaning no abuse. Better than normal wear and tear. I have enjoyed Skullcandy earbuds. I probably was hoping the PLYR1 price point was reflective of the quality. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Looked good out of the box. Not overly large and clunky. Range is good. Battery life not a issue

Plastic broke around the screws above the ear cups after five weeks on right side, left side broke two days later. Didn't expect to use the zip-ties so soon. Friends on Vent claimed low volume, confirmed by self recording and playback. Web videos would...

Stopped working after 5 months

WIreless. Worked as advertised for 6 months

Microphone and sound quality mediocre at best. Not worth $150. Further, device completely dead after 6 months of use. Horrible Skullcandy customer service expected me to pay for shipping on return and wait a month + for a return of my repaired item. I...

Durability is extremely poor!

So close and yet so far. Fixing durability would get this headset a solid 3.5-4 egg review... assuming you are not a youtuber video game recorder. Fixing the MIC would get this a solid 5 egg review. Hopefully they can address these short comings in the...

7.1 Sound quality is great, ear comfort is good... not great, boom Mic flip up auto mutes, wireless, great range, and long battery life

It's unfortunate that with all the Pro's I listed above only a few Con's really overshadow the positives ; Durability of the ear cups break away much too easily. Once the ear cup breaks off you'll immediately see why. There are 3 anchor screws that...

sub-par, unpolished, and no mic boost (PC)

This is my first Skullcandy product and for music they're wonderful, but given the situation it's probably going to be a while before I trust this brand again. They're reputation is one of high quality, but this experience has left me feeling like...

The build quality is very nice. They have a good weight to them, and the sound quality is what we've all come to expect from Skullcandy's line of products. They're easy to connect and are compatible with PCs, PS3's, and Xbox 360's. I think with an...

Despite the otherwise perfect design of the device there's some serious issues for those looking to use them with a PC (which was my primary concern). Since these were going to replace my Logitech G930's I have certain expectations. The first MAJOR...

Nice headset with one annoying flaw

While I listed a few cons, I still rated the product as a 4/5 eggs, as the main reasons you would buy this have been satisfied. The non-configurable auto-shutoff is annoying, but it does serve to increase overall battery life. The major reason for the...

Comfortable, wireless, good battery life (due to the con below), not too heavy, great sound quality, both speaker and microphone, great range, comes with all of the cables (including the fiber optic cable!)

Auto-shutoff after 5 minutes of no activity. The power button is flush with the casing, which makes it hard to turn back on, Short headset USB cable

In closing i would not recommend this product for the price you are paying. Go Astro a40 or 50 or a lower end Sennheiser headset.

Sound quality is great on these ; Super Light weight for wireless ; Comfort . Fixes my smaller sized head great

Durability. Ive owned two set. First have piece rattling loosely inside. RMA it and the second had the same. Second pair also had an earpiece break off without dropping just over time the screw holes fractured and i had to use Liquid nails for repair ;...

All in all, these headsets only look good and sound good, but the lifespan is way too short and you need to be handling them like how you would handle eggs because they break so easily. Stage 2 of horrible experience with Skullcandy is their warranty...

Yes they sound great, yes they look good, yes the memory foam is nice on the ears, and yes they are pretty light weight plus great battery life making them awesome for long gaming sessions. But beware, it only last 2-3 months for me with just normal use

But unfortunately, all of those great things about these headsets were shortlived by the choice of materials and fastening components used in the production of the headset. You may find the negative reviews about how the earcups breaking away from the...
