Incredibly happy w/ the Lifestyle 50

Please don't be confused w/ irate reviews from people who claim to be audiophiles. Take it from a person who's spent several years in the music industry both recording & performing, as well as spent years & years buying, comparing, etc. re: audio ...

Why you should not buy a Bose lifestyle 50

I purchased my Lifestyle 50 in late october '01 from a reputable chain electronics store. From the beginning, there were nothing but problems. I needed to change the CD/Tuner THREE times for defects. The powered subwoofer needed to be changed...

Looks tempting, looks can be deceiving.

4-Inch tall jewel cube speakers, touchscreen remote control, 4-room expandability, Videostage 5.

Price, amplifier, no DTS (or any notion of Dolby decoding at all).

Product Specifications

Imagine a new, more elegant music system, free from the conventional bulk and complexity. Imagine a music system engineered to deliver truly lifelike sound and blend seamlessly into your surroundings. Imagine a music system simple enough to control with just a touch, yet advanced enough to become the foundation for sound throughout your home. Imagine being able to fill a room with music as simply as you fill it with light. Bose introduces a new Lifestyle 50 system. At the heart of it is the palm-sized Lifestyle Personal music center. It replaces the conventional rack of components with something smaller than videotape. With just a glance, the Personal music center lets you know which station you're listening to or which CD is playing. Then with simply a touch, you change the CD or radio station, adjust volume - do practically anything from anywhere in your home - upstairs, downstairs, through walls, floorsand ceilings. Conventional limitations are gone. Everything you got from that rack of components is no longer stacked against your wall - it's in your hands. All this capability comes with intelligent simplicity. The Personal music center uses layered menus so only the information you need is displayed. Frequently used functions, such as volume control and radio station selection, are readily available. Menus for advanced functions like programming a multiple CD play list appear only when you're using them. Room-filling loudspeaker cabinets have been replaced by Jewel Cube speakers no bigger than a computer mouse. The full, deep bass comes from the Bose patented Acoustimass module, engineered to be hidden away behind furniture or off in a corner. A multi-room interface hides the AM/FM tuner - and all the cables and connections for up to four rooms - completely out of sight. And a slim 6-CD changer is elegant enough to be placed anywhere in view or conveniently hidden away. Bose Lifestyle 50 is the most advanced system for music and digital surround sound. Along with the same music performance as the Lifestyle 40 system, this system features 5.1-channel digital decoding and Bose proprietary Videostage 5 decoding. Conventional systems with 5.1 digital decoding give you full 5-channel surround sound only from certain sources, like DVDs. The Lifestyle 50 system delivers 5-channel surround sound from DVDs, TV, CDs, VHS tapes - any source, even mono.
