JVC Sophisti DD-3

When they first appeared at the beginning of the decade, home-theater-in-a-box systems (HTIBs) were revolutionary for taking everything you needed for a basic home theater system--an amp, five speakers, a subwoofer, and maybe even the DVD player--and...

Very stylish 3.1 design with small front speakers and no rears; center channel a nice step up over 2.1 systems; solid multimedia support via streaming network; DivX video support.

Expensive; no video inputs; sounds better on DVDs than music; terrible remote; network streaming is Ethernet only, not Wi-Fi; USB port of limited use.

If you can look past its high price--and some annoying shortcomings--the JVC DD-3 Sophisti offers elegant styling and pretty good sound for its size.

Performance from the USB drive was disappointing. We had a couple of DivX clips we tried to play directly from the USB drive, and while a few of them played without a hitch, others had choppy playback with audio dropouts. We initially had some trouble...

JVC DD-3

It's designed to integrate with your home PC - using an Ethernet connection that allows you to access audio and video files from your computer and then play them through the system. This means you can enhance the performance of your digital music files...

Compact and stylish design, accessing digital files, easy to use, decent picture quality

Average sound quality, compromised speakers

JVC Sophisti DD-3 review

Got this box afer doing intensive research, on the net and by visiting retailers. Found this to have the right combination of features and price. My current setup is: Verizon FIOS HD-DVR, DVD-R, and VCR. They are connected thru the JVC box to a 50"...

sounds good but featureless

Maybe I'm new to home theatre systems, but there doesn't seem to be much here for the $800 list price. My assessment is it's about $200 worth. A great stereo system and DVD player would do more for less money. It is network capable, but I'm don't...

The sound is pretty good

Two analog audio inputs, one on the front which is useless if you don't want to see wires running into the unit

Great!

For the money (199) this is a great system. The sound fills up a small room

It is only pass through for video. You'll need Toslink cables to get the max out of this little jewel. Oh, the DVD player has very poor video resolution

jvc dd2 premium 3.1 NMHT system

great buy considering the price/quality ratio.

enjoyable 720HD dvd graphics, elite sound quality when considering the amount of speakers. subwoofer exceeded my greatest expectation. i have yet to even try the networking aspects of this product, and i already feel like i got my money's worth

the system doesn't include all you need for optimal entertainment. you are required to purchase an HDMI cable to experience the 720 dvd upconversion (granted you have an HDTV). you also need an additional cable to connect your television services to...

Great system for the price

Aiwa isn't around any more as far as i know. This system is pretty good. Maybe i just haven't figured out how to optimized the sound yet. Bass unit is great for the size of my room which is a pretty decent size. About the size of a typical loft in the...

Small Speakers. No wires to the rear

Surround sound pretty good. Not as good as the old Aiwa system i had years ago that had the same concept of virtual surround. No seperate on off button for bass/subwoofer unit

Terrible Buy

If you can finally get it to work the picture and sound quality are pretty decent

Just about everything does not work. I have a new HDTV and am using HDMI connections. USB won't read my iTouch or any SD card with reader. Won't play picture files. Networking is a joke. It does not have a built in wireless, so you would need a...

Worth the Deal

Overall, you are not going to get a better deal for 200$. I looked around for a good deal on an entertainment system and this one is by far not a bad choice. Experts rate it a 65/100 and users rate it 87/100 which gave it an overall rating of 90/100...

Very stylish and sleak looking. Sound is very clear and easy to understand. The remote is actually fairly easy to use (although there are a lot of buttons on it). Easy to setup and easy to place speakers in locations for small-medium rooms. This is not...

From what I can tell I cannot get them to go as loud as I want. I haven't played with them that much, however, it does not "bump" as much as I would want.. but I think it could be only for certain situations (like old DVDs) that the volume will not...
