LG HLB54S review

We question the fundamental claims of LG's Blu-ray soundbar

HDMI inputs ; Excellent Blu-ray and DVD picture quality

Thin, raspy sound ; Flaky media playback ; Awkward-shaped bar

Not quite the all-rounder, but if you are pressed for space then this is a good option as a home cinema system

LG HLB54S soundbar speakers - Pocket-lint

If you're looking to snap up a Blu-ray player and home cinema system in one fell swoop, but your room is too pokey to house a full 5.1 rig then this

Picture and sound performance, features, looks, wireless sub, format support, ease of use

No built-in memory for BD Live, not wall-mountable, pricey

The HLB54S is an astonishing piece of kit. Wall mounting disappointments aside, the impressive performance, extensive feature list and stunning looks make this the best Blu-ray soundbar money can buy - even though that price tag seems steep, you...

This tidy system offers excellent Blu-ray images, but unfortunately sound quality isn't so impressive

Home cinema doesn't get much more convenient than this, but it can sound much better

LG HLB54S review

Crisp, detailed sounds and plenty of inputs, but hardly any online features and it's not designed for wall mounting.

The HLB54S is much better value than the Panasonic BFT800, and we prefer its bright tone to the Panasonic's relatively dull one. However, £447 is still a lot to pay for a home cinema system that doesn't support Blu-ray 3D, can't deliver true surround...

LG HLB54S Blu-ray Soundbar

If you can afford the high price, the LG HLB54S should prove worth it.

Very slim ; Excellent range of features ; Good sound quality

Pricey ; No built-in memory ; Cluttered remote

Let's cut to the chase - if you're after a Blu-ray soundbar, this is the one to beat. With tons of features, including built-in Wi-Fi, HDMI switching and MKV playback, the HLB54S is more appealing on paper than the HT-BD8200, plus its sound quality has...

Home cinema doesn't get much more convenient than this, but it can sound much better

Excellent Blu-ray pictures; lovely looks and decent build; wireless subwoofer integrates nicely

Sounds brash when pushed; others offer better 'virtual' surround sound

LG HLB54S review

About as good a soundbar as you can get, the LG HLB54S is well worth a punt

Crammed with amazing features, great sound

Bulky, can't mount on the wall

LG HLB54S Blu-ray Soundbar

The LG HLB54S is a home cinema soundbar with an integrated Blu-ray player. It features an HDMI output delivering 1080p HD video, plus two HDMI inputs and a USB port, and comes supplied with a separate subwoofer for bass reproduction. It also features...

The specifications, styling and all-round strong performance make the LG HLB54S one of the best soundbars out there. True, it’s fairly pricey by LG’s standards, and can’t please your lugholes like a proper multi-speaker surround setup, but you get a...
