Performance

Onkyo HT-S780

Component-grade 7.1-channel receiver; component-video switching; A/B speaker switching; three full-size bookshelf speakers plus four smaller satellite speakers; 230-watt, 10-inch powered subwoofer.

You supply the DVD player; blocky speakers may turn off style-conscious buyers.

The Onkyo HT-S780's winning combination of extraordinary value, features, build quality, and sound quality will attract the attention of performance-oriented buyers.

Onkyo HT-S780

With games consoles, DVD players and AV receivers all vying for a place under the TV, it can be a hassle setting up a home theatre system. Knowing whi...

Separate AV receiver and DVD player, powerful performance

Not very attractive, bulky, audio lacks subtlety, no on-screen menu

The HT-S780 is all about big: big sound, big size and big features

Component-grade 7.1-channel receiver ; Component-video switching ; A/B speaker switching ; Three full-size bookshelf speakers plus four smaller satellite speakers ; 230-watt, 10-inch powered subwoofer

You supply the DVD player ; Blocky speakers may turn off style-conscious buyers

If the upgrade urge strikes, HT-S780 owners can add higher-quality speakers, such as Polk Audio's RM6900, and enjoy much better sound from the S780's A/V receiver. Most competing HTIBs' receivers employ unique equalisation that works with only the...

Computer Hook Up

I hooked my computer up buy buying a 5.1 sound card that had digital optical out (Toslink/SPDIF). There are good sound cards out there that are capable for around $xx (you can spend A LOT more, but in my opinion you're only buying a name).

Best sound for the price

good for the price

Good old fashioned dolby stereo with plenty of power for movies but not a serious music system. Nothing beats studio monitors for music but for a multipurpose system this works well. The system is fairly large for my small room so think twice about...
