Onkyo HT-S7200 review: Onkyo HT-S7200

Onkyo HT-S7200

7.1 home theater system; excellent sound quality on music and movies; component-grade AV receiver included; five HDMI inputs; iPod dock included; onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio; can upconvert analog video sources to 1080i...

Speakers are relatively large and boxy; video quality of upconverted analog video is mediocre.

While its bulky design isn't for everyone, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more full-featured and better sounding all-in-one 7.1 home theater system for the price than the Onkyo HT-S7200.

Onkyo HT-S7200 Home Theater System First Look

Prices for home theater systems have absolutely plummeted over the past decade. If we were proving this in a court of law, Exhibit A would have to be the Onkyo HT-S7200 5.1-channel system.

This is an impressive 7.1 tower system that is priced fairly. You can look at it figuring that, for $899, you get a $540 A/V receiver - leaving $359 for 7 speakers and a 10-inch powered subwoofer. That's not too bad and we doubt you'll do too much...

Onkyo Home Theater Systems with ProLogic IIz

Onkyo has really been establishing themselves as a market leader when it comes to features and price. Their new Home Theater in a Box offerings are clearly a step above the rest.

The Onkyo HT-S7200 retails for just under $900 and the HT-S6200 for just under $800. Really, we see no reason why you wouldn't go for the S7200 for the nominal extra money. If you are really wanting to run 7 speakers and can't accommodate towers up...

Onkyo HT-S7200 HTiB (Home Theater in a Box)

My first Home Theater in a Box (HTiB) was a Sony unit about 10 yrs ago that went into a 500 sq/ft college apartment and, I thought for the time, sounded pretty good (I bought it on clearance from for $200 including DVD player, receiver, satellites and...

This system is a great choice for someone who just wants everything in one package, including a full array of seven speakers, subwoofer, and receiver. The quick start directions can have you up and running in an hour or two.

Great HTIB Setup

Great first time unit for me. The receiver was what I was really wanting after doing all of my research, and getting a quickie speaker set along with it was nice. The speaker wires that come with it are thin, so springing for something like 16 gauge...

Fantastic Receiver ; Loads of inputs (5 HDMI was the primary focus) ; Upscaling if you want it ; Decent enough starter speaker set (sub-woofer is nice, the rest of the speakers are average due to bad highs) ; Zone 2 option (speakers to a different...

This badboy gets H-O-T! I put together an adjustable fan to slap on the back right corner where the heat radiates most (HDMI inputs) ; NO AC OUTLET ON THE BACK! To each their own on this one, but it'd have been nice to have one to put the fan I made on...

Go for it!!

Overall I am please to have the system. I am cracking one egg due to the heat mainly because I believe the unit should have fans built into it considering the temps when running. but if you can spare the money for the fans or have a WELL ventilated...

I have had a few systems that I have put together and I am an audiophile, this HTIB sounded great the manual is useful and is easy to understand. the system sets up good out of the box. Used the included Audyssey mic to set it up and I did have to...

The unit does run hot. I got two 240mm fans to help move the air and it has helped immensely. I wish Audyssey set up better but it's auto set up what can you expect we all have different tastes

Best in a box.

This Onkyo home theater system is an unbeatable system you can find in a box. If you picked and chose each component you might not appreciate the astetics of the surround speakers until you power them up. A very worthy investment. I would suggest...

Surround speakers appearance is at best mediocre

Great Quality for the Money

Easy setup, good soundstage, well balanced system. You can't beat this system for the money. I spent a long time researching trying to decide whether I wanted to fuss with a custom built system or one of the HTIB. This system is really only a HTIB...

Cheap speaker wire, Sping clips connector for speakers. 10" sub could use a little more thump. Would be nice if the iPod dock allowed for on-screen display and control, you can watch videos but it's easier to use the iPod itself to navigate your videos...

Great system!

So far I have no regrets, this system is just awesome. It does everything I want, and then more that I wasn't even expecting.

Packaged very well, and an overall great looking system. The setup was very simple overall, the wires that come with the system are all color coded if you end up using them. They are pretty thin wires, but as of right now I am using them without issue....

THE BOX!!!! It's BIIIIG. It's like a very large mini fridge. A very very large mini fridge. My box arrived and pretty decent condition, just a few tears around the "handles" because people would drag the box by them, but that's no big deal. The whole...
