Philips Fidelio HTL9100 review

Since our first introduction to Philips' new Fidelio HTL 9100 power bar last March, we've been jonesing for some hands-on time with the first truly wireless 5.1 sound solution we've encountered. Sure, there are plenty of sound bars that offer wireless...

Seamless surround sound environment ; Smooth, clear sound signature ; Innovative wireless design ; Elegant aesthetic

Weak midrange ; Some light distortion ; Lack of fine detail

The Fidelio is a beautiful, feature packed system with an innovative design, but it lacks some of the refinements we expect from a system at this price.

Philips Fidelio HTL9100 Soundbar review

Modern day flatpanel TVs are getting so thin that their sound output tends to be equally thin on the ears. If you're spending four figures on a quality telly then you really ought to invest in sound for the ultimate home cinema experience. That's where...

Sounds great, amps up TV sound, surround sound, plenty of volume, great as a Bluetooth speaker system, plenty of input types, easy satellite speaker recharge, easy setup, no on-screen menu faff

Very long and uses up space, satellite speakers need switching on and individual recharging, sounds thin without the sub, mid levels aren't as full as we'd like, no on-screen menu depth

It's hard to say a truly bad word about the Philips Fidelio Soundbar. It looks good, it sounds good, is super simple to set up and the modular satellite speaker experience is fun.

Philips Fidelio HTL9100 review

Wireless 'surround on demand' soundbar

Effective surround sound ; Wireless subwoofer ; Automatic switch virtual to surround ; Easy to set up ; Uncompressed audio

Expensive ; Satellites need recharging ; Requires wide AV furniture

Hands up who still has home cinema speakers strewn around their living room? Not many, we'd wager, but Philips thinks that you secretly want to return to the days of 5.1 if only there was a way to ditch the cables and clutter.

A superbly versatile sound bar that sounds superb in 2.1 or as a surround sound system

Philips HTL9100

A clever soundbar solution with detachable wireless speakers

Crisp, detailed and immersive sound ; Clever, stylish design ; Good feature list

No HD audio decoding ; Cables stick upwards when wall mounted ; Hard to read front panel

As if that wasn’t enough, the system even comes with a wireless subwoofer, providing deep bass without a cable in sight – again making it easy to accommodate. It's unusually tall and slender enclosure is coated in a classy matt black finish, allowing...

Philips HTL9100

Product of the Year, Awards 2013. If you want a shape-shifting soundbar with surround sound, make sure to seek this one out

Detailed sound ; Good integration ; Impressive power and scale ; Innovative design that works

Nothing at this price

We really like this soundbar. It sounds great, it’s versatile, and we think the surround-on-demand option is a really neat idea. If you want good sound without the hassle of trailing cables and fiddly set-ups, this is the way to go.

Philips Fidelio HTL9100 Soundbar

The Philips Fidelio HTL9100 is a soundbar/subwoofer combo with detachable surround speakers, Bluetooth support and HDMI switching for full home theatre control.

Real, effective surround sound ; Strong clean bass ; Effective system control and switching

Insufficient adjustment range to balance subwoofer ; Limited volume levels

The Philips Fidelio is a rare soundbar able to produce excellent surround sound and also act as a control centre for your home-entertainment system.

The Philips HTL9100 is no ordinary soundbar. If needed, the detachable, battery-powered side speakers can be put anywhere in the room where they will receive rear-channel sound wirelessly, providing true ‘Surround On Demand' via the onboard Dolby and...

Very happy

Just purchased the Fidelio Sound bar. Had it plugged in and connected in literally a few minutes. Our living situation had changed by choice and we downsized to a Townhouse. Have had my Denon 5.1 home theatre for 8 years and it no longer fitted into...
