Philips HTS6600 review

Stylish, but can it rival a true multichannel system?

Eye-catching design ; Strong picture

Noisy operation ; Feeble pseudosurround ; Average upscaling

Good video quality and okay audio, but nothing like a real surround sound system

Philips HTS6600 - 2.1 DVD System

It's no substitute for a proper 5.1-channel system, but it is eye-catching and should better your TV's speakers.

1080p upscaling is very much in fashion right now but the HTS6600 stops at 1080i, a decision that might make those with Full HD TVs look elsewhere. Other key features include playback of DivX Ultra from DVDs or CDs, plus MP3, WMA and JPEG files can be...

Philips HTS 6600 review

Looks aren't everything - the HTS660 fails to deliver on performance

No doubting the style and quality of finish ; plenty of bottom end ; detailed image

Subwoofer and satellites don’t integrate ; harsh treble ; noisy picture

It certainly looks the part, but this stylish system lacks the extra class when delivering sound and vision

Philips HTS6600

The eye-catching design carries plenty of futuristic appeal featuring a vertically mounted main unit constructed from glass and aluminium with a sliding disc draw at the side for total minimalism. And the accompanying powered subwoofer and two upright...

Compact design, ease of use, impressive image quality

Restricted surround performance, only 1080i upscaling

State of The Art Features, Good Sound for Less Than $300

Easy set-up, HDMI DVD upscaler. Sound is very good! Compact

Lacks power in sub woofer, TV input volume is just ok

Remote or unit defective

Did not buy from NewEgg, was much cheaper after adding the freight to buy it locally.

Easy to setup, loud enough for my room ; Easy to update firmware; read and follow instructions and it's done

It is a 2.1 HTIB not 5.1 and does not even come close to sounding like a 5.1 HTIB. Remote or main unit is flakey, cannot intermittentely control any functions with the remote ; Sometimes need to get up to 6" of it for remote to "maybe" work and yes the...

Died + Only 30 Day Warranty

Warranty is only good for 30 days. Bought for a friend, now I have to buy something new.

Good price for all in one device

Swallows DVDs which have to be removed with a tweezer. Remote works sporadically, even with fresh batteries

Great Sound/Bad Picture

Bottom line... I'm buying the bose system and a blu-ray player and throwing this thing on craigslist... This is my first HD set and I want perfection. I am not a tech guy and it took my a while to get this all set up so all my componants played through...

Set up was a snap and it sounds great. Very loud and clear sound. Price was too attractive to pass up compared to the Bose or other systems. It really does sound like some of the 5.1 systems I have had in the past

DVD's look terrible. I can't even watch them it is so bad. I had a $40 Zenith dvd player from the spare room on here and it looked 10 times better. I tried the componant and HDMI connection and it still looks terrible on my 50" Samsung Plasma. I...

Execellent HTS in a Box System

I did not buy it from newegg (they did not offer it back then). Make sure you: update the firmware to the latest one from philips website; use hdmi for upscaling support; have atleast a 2 gig usb stick (much easer than using a dvd each time).

Complete package for a basic home theater in a small room or apartment/condo ; Does everything you need it to do including playing xvid/divx movies and mp3s in one small package ; Has a great price ; Sound is decent, but nothing compare to a 7.1 THX...

Does not play mpg4 movies ; Navigating long mp3 lists is not easy ; Only displays the first 8 character s in a file name

Good for a 2.1

Newegg has this listed when you do a search for 5.1 surround systems. This comes with 2.1 speakers. Not bad for the price but I feel like an idot for buying it

Good Sound, Good Price, supports lots of file types

No problem with the gear but just make sure you understand that this is a 2.1 NOT a 5.1 system
