Samsung HT-BD2T

Editors' Note: As of spring 2008, Samsung has announced the very similar HT-BD2S , which--except for smaller speakers and a lower retail price--is identical to the HT-BD2T reviewed here.

7.1-channel all-in-one home theater system with built-in Blu-ray player; built-in support for latest Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio surround processing; elegant styling, with four tallboy speakers; full-size subwoofer; upscales DVDs to 1080p.

Very expensive; only Blu-ray Profile 1.0 compliant, so it will not play some bonus features on some new discs in 2008; few jacks for connecting external sources; slow disc loading; no auto speaker calibration.

The Samsung HT-BD2T delivers the sort of top-notch video quality you'd expect from the world's first home theater system with built-in Blu-ray--but its high price, average audio quality, and lack of extras make it tough to recommend.

Samsung HT-BD2T Blu-ray HTiB

Samsung debuted the HT-BD2T early this year with much fanfare; it was after all billed as “the world's first Blu-ray home theater (in box) system.” That was then, but now that it's no longer the lone Blu-ray HTiB, the HT-BD2's features lineup still...

We think the HT-BD2T’s sleek design looks slick, especially the curvy receiver/Blu-ray player. The system’s gloss black finish completes the impression of upscale componentry. Overall sound quality and dynamic punch are better than average. Then again,...

Samsung HT-BD2T Blu-ray Home Cinema System

The Samsung Blu-ray Home Cinema System not only plays your movies in Full HD, it also provides you with 7.1-channel speakers for the ultimate cinema feel. We pull out our favourite couch, sit down, and put this home theatre in a box to the test.

Easy to install; Blu-ray capabilities; 7.1-speakers for surround sound; Great sound reproduction

No audio calibration; No fine tuning of treble and bass; Wires everywhere means users would have to think of a clever way to keep it clean; Not upgradable to support BD-Live

"Good but expensive to maintain."

I bought my Samsung HT-BD2R in 2009 from London. It became faulty after 3 months of spare use. No Samsung dealer in Nigeria would touch it claiming that since I purchased my set from outside their operational region, required spare parts would not be...

High quality picture and terrific sound delivery.

Faulty components cannot be replaced. If one component goes bad you junk the entire bundle. Poor technical support from manufacturers.

"Less than 12 months old and having huge problems!"

After repeated requests to Samsung for further firmware updates and the poor service support, I would not recommend this product. Infact I would really question buying Samsung products based on my experience over the past 3 months.

Great design, which was the tipping point to purchase this product.

Will not play many movies, even with the latest firmware update.

After repeated requests to Samsung for further firmware updates and the poor service support, I would not recommend this product. Infact I would really question buying Samsung products based on my experience over the past 3 months.

Great design, which was the tipping point to purchase this product ; 7.1 channels, true HD sound

Will not play many movies, even with the latest firmware update ; Poor sound quailty, especially when the unit is cold (15 degrees C) (well within operating temp') ; Extremely slow at loading (expect the drive head is hunting rather than loading)
