Samsung HT-X70

When we reviewed the Samsung HT-TQ85 late in 2006, we were impressed by its slick design, excellent feature set, and stellar sound. The HT-X70 has a similar feature set to the HT-TQ85--HDMI input and output, USB port, DVD upconversion, XM-ready--but...

Home theater in a box with integrated AV receiver/five-disc DVD changer; HDMI output with upscaling to up to 1080i; single HDMI input to connect a high-def source; stylish design with small speakers; XM-ready.

Sounds better with movies than with music; no automatic speaker calibration; can't browse iPod with onscreen menus; no analog video inputs

The Samsung HT-X70 is stylish and has a great feature set for the price, but it sounds better on movies than with music.

"Didn't last even 2 years. Minimal to moderate use"

For the price we paid it should have lasted longer than 2 years. I thought Samsung was known for its quality. I hope the 52" TV we bought at the same time lasts longer!

When it worked, it worked well

Burned up with minimal to moderate DVD use, usually just turned on for the pass through to the TV. Started smoking and did a meltdown - less than 2 years old.

"very disappointing for so many reasons."

When watching DVDs the audio is often very quiet when dialog is being played so you turn it up and then when the musical score or sound effects come in they are way too loud. We have to have the remote in hand for every movie and are turning it up and...

hasn't caught fire yet

Almost every I would expect of this unit either is painfully slow or doesn't work properly. see below.

"Second one I try. Totally disapointed..."

I have this piece of junk for over three months now. I had another one previously that i kept for two weeks and thought it was defective so i returned it to buy another one having absolutely the same problems. Still don't know why i did this.

Great sound. I naver had HDMI problems. That's about it...

cannot compress all the cons in one line. Please rad below

"Good value, but HDMI input has problems"

One thing that compelled me to buy this system was when I read the CNET review about the HDMI input with this system. So I hook up the cable box/DVR (Motorola) to the HDMI input and the plasma TV to the HDMI out port. The system had sound but all the...

good DVD player, wireless rear speakers, HDMI output,

HDMI input doesn't work

Consumer review by:

"Sounds great, good DVD picture, but HDMI problem"

First of all, the HDMI "protection problem" that other people have complained about do NOT exist across the board. I am using a DishNetwork HD receiver (VIP622) with HDMI output feeding to the HDMI input on the Samsung HT-X70 with no problems. At...

good value, XM ready, iPod ready

AnyNet doesnt work properly with HDMI

Great Choice For Average Home User

This isn't the unit for the person that's spent tens of thousands or more building a home theater. It is a great choice however for the average home user, looking to improve upon a current sound source that's built into the TV/Tuner. Adding this to our...

Performs as advertised. It upscales nicely, changes discs quickly enough and produces rich sound that will more than fill the average users home impressively

No cons as I knew what to expect before purchasing and wasn't disappointed by any unexpected surprises. READ EVERYTHING you can find and if possible, try out any product before purchasing!!! That usually helps more than anything in avoiding disappointment

Good Simple System

I don't own an Ipod so I haven't been able to test if it works with one, though the box claims to support them. Sounds is excellent with this system, it is a good option for anyone looking for an easy-to-use home theatre system.

System sounds excellent. No distortion. Speakers will automatically adjust for surround sound and back depending on what you're watching. Upscaling on the DVD player is great. HDMI in and out ports. Wires included are plenty long. Wireless support

The unit itself is very long, it may not fit in some entertainment centers

Decent, but a bit expensive on Newegg.

Buy it at a local electronics store - I got mine for much less than $300.

Upconversion is pretty good, 5 disc changer, decent sound, can play files from a USB drive. Supports HDMI and audio input for some surround sound from the TV. Also supports optical. Cables included were long and were color-coded so I don't need to run...

DVD's take a bit longer to read but not a big deal. However, IT DOES NOT SUPPORT IPODS AND MOST OTHER MP3 PLAYERS! My system came with an iPod cable but what's the use? I only get a USB ERROR when I plug in my iPod. Speakers also easily tilt over but...
